NBL1 East: Hills Hornets
Sitting sixth on the ladder, the Hills Hornets are riding the momentum from a win over the Illawarra Hawks off the hands of Liam Moss.
In the final seconds of the game, Moss flicked off the shot on the baseline to win the game 88 to 87 – he scored 11 points in the final quarter and finished with 19 points, three assists and two rebounds to give the Hornets a 6-4 record going into Round 9.
NBL1 North: Gold Coast Rollers
The reigning NBL1 North champions had a major Round 6, going 2-0 against the Mackay Meteors and Rockhampton Rockets.
The Rockets knocked off the MVP favourite Isaac White on Friday night and then recorded a commanding 24-point win over Rockhampton. NBL1 North Finals MVP Jason Cadee was outstanding, averaging 27 points, 10.5 assists and six rebounds – the Adelaide 36ers recruit is looking to take Gold Coast back to the promised land.
NBL1 South: Waverley Falcons
The Waverley Falcons made a major addition in Round 5, bringing in NBL1 South championship point guard AJ Harris to the squad. In his first game back he scored six points with five steals and five assists, but the story of the night was Dillon Stith.
Awarded the Foot Locker Player of the Week, he scored 32 points and sank the game-winning fadeaway to ice the game against the NW Thunder. NBL1 West: Joondalup Wolves
The Wolves haven’t lost a game since Round 4 and the emergence of Quinton Dove has been a factor in this streak.
NBL1 West: Joondalup Wolves
Round 6 saw the Wolves close out two tight wins on Friday and Saturday. Against the Willetton Tigers at home, the Wolves clutched a 1-point win off the back of 43 points from Dove. While on the road on Saturday, Joondalup sealed a five-point win over the Cockburn Cougars with three players scoring 20 points or more.
NBL1 West expert Greg Hire says while Rockingham’s Devondrick Walker is in the lead for MVP once again, Dove is making a strong case – and Round 6 was a brilliant showcase of that.
NBL1 Central: West Adelaide Bearcats
Illawarra Hawks recruit Lachlan Olbrich had a massive game against the Lions, dropping 28 points and 10 rebounds to push their record to 6-2 going into Round 8.
The 6’10 19-year-old finished in the NBL1 Central All-Star Five last season and has only gotten better under the guidance of Mitch McCarron and Anthony Drmic.
The Bearcats looked like one of the contending teams at the start of the season, but with the emergence of Olbrich, the Bearcats loom as the team to beat come Finals.
