Ahead of this weekend’s NBL1 National Finals in Adelaide, the Frankston Blues have secured a major piece of their championship-winning roster, re-signing import forward Jeremy Combs for the 2027 NBL1 South season.
Combs joined Frankston midway through the 2026 campaign and made an immediate impact, averaging 20.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.8 steals and 0.8 blocks per game.
His arrival helped propel the Blues towards their first NBL1 South championship, culminating in a Grand Final MVP performance against the Eltham Wildcats.
Combs produced 21 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals as Frankston held off Eltham 78–75 at the State Basketball Centre.
Reflecting on his first season with the club, Combs said Frankston’s welcoming environment immediately stood out.
“The family environment. Since day one, when I made it to town, I joined in the middle of the season and everybody welcomed me with open arms,” Combs said.
“I think that’s the great part of having a championship team, building a lot of chemistry and a great bond in such a short amount of time. I think that was great for me.”
The work ethic within the group and his experience with the organisation made returning for another season an easy decision.
“Everybody just worked so hard. Of course, I’m grateful for the opportunity,” he said.
“When I first came in, from day one, I kind of just liked everything that was going on with the organisation.
“We had a great run, and I think next year we have a great chance to do it again.”
Before turning his attention fully towards 2027, Combs and the Blues will head to the Adelaide State Basketball Centre this weekend with another championship in their sights.
“First, I’m going to try to finish this one off with a national championship,” he said.
Combs knows the challenge will only become greater when Frankston returns as the defending NBL1 South champion next season.
“Next year, it’s going to be hard. After you win a championship and you come back the next year, you become kind of like the hunted,” he said.
“It’ll be a good challenge, and it’ll be a lot of fun. I think we have a chance to compete to do it again, and I think that’s all you can ask for.”
Combs will also be part of a significant new chapter for Frankston in 2027, with the Blues set to move into their new stadium at Bardia Avenue in Seaford after playing their 2026 home games at the temporary Jubilee Park Stadium.
“I’m super excited about that. I know Frankston is and, hopefully coming off this championship, we can pack it out,” he said.
“It’ll be great.”
