Match Report: Raiders Overpower Chargers in Knox

 

The Hobart Chargers endured a difficult road trip on Friday night, falling 78-59 to the Knox Raiders at the State Basketball Centre in Round 15 NBL1 South women’s action.

 

After a competitive opening quarter, Knox gradually tightened its grip on the contest, using a balanced offensive attack and dominant work on the glass to secure a convincing home victory.

 

The Chargers started brightly and matched the Raiders early. Sharna Thompson knocked down a pair of triples, Chloe Broomhall was active around the basket, and Tyia Singleton provided valuable interior scoring as Hobart stayed within striking distance. However, Knox finished the opening period strongly to take a 24-15 lead.

 

The second quarter proved decisive. Paige Burrows ignited the Raiders’ offence with a series of three-pointers, while Alicia Froling controlled the paint at both ends. Knox outscored Hobart 22-17 in the period and stretched the margin to 46-32 at halftime.

 

The Raiders then delivered the knockout blow after the main break. Burrows continued her shooting clinic, Rachel Bell found her rhythm offensively, and Paige Bradley orchestrated the attack. Knox produced a dominant 26-point third quarter while limiting Hobart to just 11 points, blowing the lead out to 72-43 entering the final term.

 

Although the Chargers responded with greater energy in the fourth quarter, winning the period 16-6, the deficit was too large to overcome.

 

Tishara Morehouse sparked much of Hobart’s late offence, creating scoring opportunities for teammates and pushing the pace, while Singleton continued to battle hard inside. The Chargers showed resilience down the stretch, but Knox had already done the damage.

 

Singleton led Hobart with 13 points and seven rebounds while shooting an efficient 57 percent from the field. Captain Sharna Thompson finished with 15 points, though she faced heavy defensive pressure and was limited to 5-of-20 shooting overall.

 

Morehouse produced one of the more complete performances of the night with 11 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists, narrowly missing a triple-double despite difficult shooting numbers.

 

Broomhall added nine points and nine rebounds, while Andie Smith was productive off the bench with six points, eight rebounds and three blocks.

 

For Knox, Burrows was outstanding, pouring in a game-high 24 points on a remarkable 9-of-11 shooting performance, including a perfect 6-of-6 from beyond the arc. Bell added 15 points, while Froling recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Bradley controlled the tempo with 12 points and seven assists.

 

The statistics highlighted several areas that favoured the Raiders. Knox dominated the rebounding battle 53-45, collected 22 offensive rebounds and converted those extra possessions into 13 second-chance points. The Raiders also enjoyed a significant edge from the perimeter, hitting 12 three pointers at 35.3 percent compared with Hobart’s 6-of-29 effort from deep.

 

Despite Hobart shooting a respectable 47.1 percent on two-point attempts, their overall field-goal percentage of 34.9 percent and three-point percentage of just 20.7 percent made it difficult to keep pace with Knox’s offensive firepower.

 

The Raiders led for 38 minutes and 24 seconds and built a game-high advantage of 29 points during a dominant stretch spanning the second and third quarters.

 

For Hobart, the result was a frustrating one against one of the competition’s strongest teams, but the fourth quarter response and the performances of Morehouse, Singleton and Broomhall provided some positives to build upon heading into the final game.

 

Match Report: Raiders Run Riot as Chargers Fall in Knox

 

The Hobart Chargers were unable to contain a red-hot Knox Raiders outfit on Friday night, suffering a 121-86 defeat at the State Basketball Centre in Round 15 NBL1 South men’s action.

 

Knox led from the opening minutes and never looked back, producing one of their most efficient offensive performances of the season to overwhelm the Chargers and improve their standing heading toward the postseason.

 

The Raiders exploded out of the blocks behind the dominance of Kobe Williamson, who scored from virtually every area of the floor early. Knox shot the ball at a blistering rate and established a 33-26 lead at quarter time.

 

The second quarter was where the game began to break open. Williamson continued to punish the Chargers inside, Trazarien White repeatedly got downhill, and the Raiders’ ball movement generated quality looks throughout the period. Knox outscored Hobart 36-18 in the term to build a commanding 69-44 halftime advantage.

 

Any hopes of a Hobart comeback were effectively erased in the third quarter. Knox maintained its relentless pace, attacking the paint and forcing turnovers that led to easy transition baskets. The Raiders stretched the margin beyond 30 points and carried a 97-66 lead into the final period.

 

With the result largely decided, both teams emptied their benches during the fourth quarter, but Knox continued to score efficiently on its way to a 35-point victory.

 

Williamson was sensational for the Raiders, finishing with 34 points and 11 rebounds in just over 20 minutes. He shot 11-of-19 from the field, was perfect from the foul line (10-of-10), collected seven offensive rebounds and posted an outstanding efficiency rating of 40.

 

White provided strong support with 20 points, six rebounds and three assists, while Brandon Slater scored 15 points on 87.5 percent shooting. Deng Acuoth added 15 points in under 15 minutes, and Brody Nunn orchestrated the offence superbly with eight assists, seven rebounds and two steals.

 

As a team, Knox shot 55.8 percent from the field, delivered 26 assists, dominated the offensive glass with 19 offensive rebounds and scored a massive 74 points in the paint.

 

For Hobart, Noah Clarke led the scoring with 16 points and five rebounds. Tommy Stewart added 15 points, while captain Jacob Richards contributed 13 points and Luke Rosendale scored nine.

 

Harry Griffiths provided an efficient 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting, and Nicholas Paul added 11 points, four rebounds and two blocks from the bench.

 

Despite shooting a respectable 45.5 percent from the field and an excellent 94.7 percent from the free-throw line, the Chargers struggled to slow Knox defensively. Hobart committed 17 turnovers, surrendered 18 points from those turnovers and could not match the Raiders’ size, rebounding, or transition play.

 

The statistical difference was stark inside the arc. Knox converted 66.7 percent of its two-point attempts and piled up 74 points in the paint, compared with Hobart’s 30. The Raiders also generated 29 second-chance points and 16 fast-break points, repeatedly turning extra possessions into scoreboard pressure.

 

Knox led for 39 minutes and 47 seconds and built a game-high advantage of 36 points, controlling virtually every phase of the contest.

 

While the result was disappointing for Hobart, there were positives from the performances of Noah Clarke, Tommy Stewart and Jacob Richards. The Chargers will now look to regroup quickly as they continue their push through the second half of the season.
