There were two wins each for Geraldton Buccaneers and Joondalup Wolves while Mandurah Magic and Goldfields Giants won thrillers, and Rockingham Flames continued to dominate.

Taylor Young had his best Joondalup Wolves weekend in two NBL1 West wins with Jack Browder putting up 61 points for Perry Lakes Hawks, Rowan Mackenize led Cockburn Cougars to six straight and Devondrick Walker had 62 in two Geraldton Buccaneers wins.

FRIDAY

Perry Lakes Hawks (91) defeated East Perth Eagles (83)

Even while losing Isaiah Moses to an ankle injury and the East Perth Eagles bringing in De'Sean Parsons, the Perry Lakes Hawks built a 22-point lead on the way to the 91-83 victory.

The Hawks played host to the Eagles at Bendat Basketball Centre with Perry Lakes looking to bounce back from a loss to the Warwick Senators while East Perth had lost two straight but added in Parsons who had been playing at the West Adelaide Bearcats and was named to All-First NBL1 West Team the past two seasons.

It was Perry Lakes clinging to the 19-17 lead by quarter-time before they pushed that out to a 42-37 advantage by half-time.

The Hawks then took complete control in the third quarter completing a 10-0 run to go up by 22 and with 25 points to 13 in the term they were on top 67-50 by three quarter-time.

The Eagles did put up 33 points in the last quarter but Perry Lakes still held firm for the eight-point victory to improve to a 5-5 record.

Jack Browder continued the stunning start to his NBL1 career with 32 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals on 11/21 field goal shooting and going 8/10 at the foul line.

Cam Huefner added 24 points and 13 rebounds for the Hawks, Max Bucknell 12 points, nine boards, four assists and three steals, and Andreas Grubisa eight points while Isaiah Moses had five points and six assists before injuring an ankle early in the second half.

East Perth have now lost three straight to be 5-5 with Lat Mayen finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds, with David Okwera adding 12 points, seven boards and two assists, and new arrival De'Sean Parsons 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Mandurah Magic (106) defeated Perth Redbacks (105)

The Mandurah Magic had to dig deep but outscored the Perth Redbacks 13 points to five over the last four minutes to come from behind and win a thriller 106-105 for a third win of 2026.

The Magic were back home at Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre still trying to get their season up and going while still missing Matt Kenyon with the Redbacks arriving trying to maintain their top eight position.

Mandurah were leading by two at quarter-time before the Redbacks worked on top in the second term and led by as much as nine before being on top 52-47 by half-time.

It was 32 points apiece in the third quarter and then the Redbacks were well in control leading 100-93 when Isaac Etter hit a three-pointer with just under four minutes remaining.

Slipping to 2-9 for Mandurah might have been too much to come back from so the home team dug deep with triples to Michael Christmas and Michael Dupree, and buckets to Jock Perry and Lachlan Bertram to be on top just two minutes later.

Championship captain Chad Miegel then hit two clutch free throws to seal the eventual one-point win for Mandurah as they improve to a 3-8 record.

Christmas delivered 36 points, four rebound and two assists in the win on 5/8 three-point shooting with Dupree adding 28 points and six assists, Bertram 11 points, nine assists and six rebounds, and Perry 19 points, 17 rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots.

The Redbacks are now 4-5 following the loss with Sean Conway putting up another 37 points on 7/9 three-point shooting with Luke Phillips adding 23 points, six rebounds and five assists, Isaac Etter 14 points and seven assists, and Marshall Nelson 11 points, three boards and two assists.

Joondalup Wolves (118) defeated Willetton Tigers (96)

Taylor Young had his best performance in Joondalup Wolves colours ahead of his return to his old home floor with his team sending a message with an emphatic 118-96 home win over the Willetton Tigers.

The Wolves were back home at Arena Joondalup looking to back up a 29-point win over the Goldfields Giants and make a good start to a crucial double header this weekend while the Tigers were coming off their first two losses of 2026 after starting 8-0.

Willetton then started well for an early 11-point lead but the Wolves were back within two by quarter-time and then took charge with 68 points to 43 over the next two quarters.

That put Joondalup on the path to the eventual 22-point victory to improve to a 7-3 record while Willetton have now lost three straight to be 8-3.

It was a supremely impressive all-round display from the Wolfpack as they shot 61 per cent as a team with 11/24 from three-point territory and had 23 assists to 16 turnovers with six players scoring in double figures.

That included Ben Geel in his 100th appearance finishing with 14 points and three rebounds on 6/7 field goal shooting.

Taylor Young top scored with the veteran point guard delivering 23 points and four assists on 9/11 shooting as he now prepares to return to his old home floor against an East Perth team he was captain of to start the 2025 season on Saturday night.

Sharif Black also produced 22 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists for Joondalup, CJ Turnage 18 points, four assists and four steals, Gabe Chadinha 16 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals, and 201-gamer Caleb Davis 12 points and three assists with 3/6 three-point shooting.

Taeshon Cherry did have a good enough start for Willetton with six points in the first quarter and nine to half-time, but he only had 12 for the game by the end on 4/13 shooting with five turnovers.

Damien Scott did top score for the Tigers in his 386th game with 16 points, four rebounds and four assists with Aaron Gashaw going 8/9 at the foul line for 14 points and four rebounds while Tom Musumeci contributed 10 points, and Channing Olowoyo 11 with four steals.

SATURDAY

South West Slammers (77) lost to Lakeside Lightning (99)

Michael Imariagbe continued to impress having recently joined the Lakeside Lightning and he had 31 points in the 99-77 road win against the South West Slammers.

It was a hot start from Lakeside at Eaton Recreation Centre with the visitors racing out to a 15-point lead in the first quarter and to be on top 33-19 by quarter-time.

It was another 31 points to 16 in the second term for Lakeside to already have a match winning advantage by half-time with the 64-35 lead.

The Slammers did put up 31 points in the third quarter but Lakeside responded with 21 to 11 in the final period on the way to the 22-point victory to improve to a 4-7 record.

Imariagbe top scored for Lakeside with 31 points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals with 14/19 field goal shooting with Corey Shervill contributing 18 points and four rebounds with 4/6 three-point shooting.

Josh Davey added 10 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals, Isaiah Lewis 16 points, five rebounds and four assists, and Yahui Sun nine points and six assists.

The Slammers have now lost 10 straight to be 1-10 with Philmon Gebrhiwet finishing with 24 points, six rebounds, four steals and two assists with Jhaylon Martinez adding 17 points and six boards, and Pharell Keats nine points, three assists and two steals.

East Perth Eagles (87) lost to Joondalup Wolves (99)

The Joondalup Wolves completed a perfect weekend and Taylor Young enjoyed his return to his former home floor with the 99-87 win against the East Perth Eagles.

Both teams were coming off playing on Friday night ahead of the clash at Morley Sport and Recreation Centre with the Eagles losing to the Perry Lakes Hawks while the Wolves won big over the Willetton Tigers.

There was added intrigue with former East Perth captain Young coming back to play his old side on his former home court for the first time as well with the Wolfpack starting on fire with 33 points to 16 in the first quarter.

That included the Wolves scoring 14 straight points and then the lead got out to 20 in the second term and was still 55-36 by half-time.

The lead was as much as 21 in the second half and while the Eagles made a couple of brief flurries throughout the last half, Joondalup remained in control on the way to the 12-point win.

The pair of wins this weekend improve the Wolves to an 8-3 record with Sharif Black starring with 29 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists on 13/23 field goal shooting.

Taylor Young added 20 points, five assists and three rebounds, CJ Turnage 12 points, eight boards and four assists, Caleb Davis 11 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals, and Gabe Chadinha 10 points, three boards and three assists.

East Perth have now lost four straight to be 5-6 with Max Rice now departing for a coaching role at Boise State with De'Sean Parsons having now played his first two games after departing the West Adelaide Bearcats in NBL1 Central.

Parsons did finish with four points, 10 rebounds and six assists while Jonah Antonio put up 24 points with 5/7 three-point shooting.

David Okwera also had 19 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, Lat Mayen 17 points, five boards and three assists, and Lee Roberts 11 points, six rebounds and two steals.

Cockburn Cougars (111) defeated Perry Lakes Hawks (94)

Rowan Mackenzie continues to emerge as a genuine MVP threat and he led the Cockburn Cougars with a sixth straight win with the 111-94 home win against the Perry Lakes Hawks.

The Cougars were back home at Wally Hagan Stadium on a five-game winning streak and have looked quite the exciting line-up since Mackenzie and Johny Narkle have settled into the line-up along with Akeem Springs.

Perry Lakes arrived fresh off a strong win at home to the East Perth Eagles on Friday but they were without Isaiah Moses who hurt an ankle denying him the match up with Mackenzie.

Cockburn were leading 26-24 by quarter-time but Perry Lakes hit back with 30 points to 26 in the second term to see the Hawks leading 54-52 by half-time.

The Cougars took charge in the third quarter with 27 points to 19 and then went on with the job with 32 points to 21 in the final quarter on the way to the 17-point victory to make it six straight to improve to a 7-3 record.

Rowan Mackenzie starred again in the win for Cockburn with 28 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals on 8/11 shooting from the floor, 3/4 from behind the arc and 9/9 at the foul line.

Johny Narkle also had 24 points, five assists, five steals and four rebounds despite 8/12 shooting with Joseph Bradshaw adding 20 points, seven rebounds, five blocks and four steals, and Akeem Springs 12 points, six boards, four assists and two steals.

Perry Lakes are now 5-6 having split their double weekend with Jack Browder delivering another 29 points, nine rebounds and two assists on 11/18 field goal shooting.

Cam Huefner also had 29 points, nine rebounds and four assists with Andreas Grubisa adding 13 points and three boards, and Max Bucknell 10 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Goldfields Giants (79) defeated Kalamunda Eastern Suns (76)

The Goldfields Giants fell down 12 points early without three regular starters but they dug deep with Lino Manhom showing the way in the eventual 79-76 win over the Eastern Suns to breathe life back into their season.

The Giants were back home at Evolution Mining Stadium having lost their past five matches and they were up against it taking on the third placed Eastern Suns without either import Danny Pippen and Sam Vinson along with Sam Morrow.

All three have started the majority of games this season and the Suns took advantage with a 12-point lead in the first quarter and the visitors were even leading by seven again in the fourth in an attempt to win and celebrate the 350th game of Reece Maxwell.

However, the Giants produced a gutsy second half performance to outscore Kalamunda 46 points to 39 to secure the three-point win and stop their losing slide and improve to 3-7 record while the Eastern Suns are now 7-3 with the defeat.

Lino Manhom was instrumental in the performance and victory finishing with 22 points, 20 rebounds and three assists on 11/20 shooting from the field while seven of those boards were at the offensive end.

Josh Duach had nine points in the first quarter and ended the night with 17 to go with 11 rebounds and five assists while Michael Jok contributed 17 points, eight boards and four assists.

Nick Shaw also had nine points and two blocks, and Jerome Reid six points, two rebounds and two assists with 2/4 three-point shooting.

The Eastern Suns did lead by 12 points in the first quarter and again by seven in the last term but couldn’t quite complete the deal with Marley Sam the standout once more.

The 17-year-old point guard finished with 22 points, eight assists, five rebounds and four steals.

Hayden Price also ended up with 17 points and 12 rebounds, Terrandus Smith 16 points, eight boards, four steals and two assists, and Lewis Thomas seven points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals.

Reece Maxwell then played 27 minutes in his 350th game and finished with eight points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Rockingham Flames (100) defeated Warwick Senators (68)

The Rockingham Flames got out to a 27-point lead early in the second quarter and then coach Ryan Petrik got plenty of minutes into his bench with his team still completing the 100-68 win over the Warwick Senators.

It was the second time the teams have met this season since last year's thrilling preliminary final with the Flames beating the Senators by 32 point at Warwick Stadium ahead of Saturday night's match up at Mike Barnett Sports Complex.

Rockingham had won four straight to be sitting in top spot and dominated the first quarter with a 14-0 run to be leading 27-8 by quarter-time.

That lead for the Flames got out to 27 points in the second quarter with them on top 50-26 by half-time.

The lead continued to grow even with most of Rockingham's sitting for the majority of the second half and got out to 34 points on the way to the eventual 32-point victory as the Flames improve to a 9-2 record.

All 12 Rockingham players were out there for at least six minutes with 10 of them fore more than 14 and nobody played more than Mark Burkholder's 22 who had six points and seven rebounds.

Ryan Godfrey top scored with 21 points while Michael Harris added 18, Isaac White 13, Emmett Naar 11, Blake Jones 11 and Leon Maguire six to go with seven rebounds with Laquinton Ross still to come in.

The Senators are now 3-8 having lost two straight with Brody England producing 16 points, three rebounds and two assists with Jordan Sandon adding 11 points and three assists, Tyler Shand eight points and two rebounds, and Jay Thwaites eight points.

Perth Redbacks (89) lost to Geraldton Buccaneers (112)

The Geraldton Buccaneers remained unbeaten on the road so far this season with Devondrick Walker putting up 32 points with six players scoring in double figures in the 112-89 win over the Perth Redbacks.

The Redbacks have been competing valiantly this season and were back home at Belmont Oasis hosting the reigning champion Buccaneers and the visitors had a dominant start with 33 points to 16 in the first quarter.

The lead for the Buccs got out to 22 points in the second quarter but the Redbacks did hit back to put up 30 points for the term to limit the Geraldton advantage to 57-46 by half-time.

The Buccaneers put up another 33 points to 26 in the third period and 22 to 17 in the fourth on the way to the empathic 23-point road win to be 5-0 on the road in 2026 and 7-2 overall.

Devondrick Walker put up 32 points and seven assists with 7/12 three-point shooting while Josh Keyes produced 20 points, five boards, four assists and four steals, and Verle Williams 18 points and 11 assists.

Liam Hunt also had 15 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks, Matthew Norman 13 points and two boards, and Cooper Creek 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots.

The Redbacks are now 4-6 following the defeat with Luke Phillips finishing with 28 points and four rebounds on 6/7 three-point shooting.

Sean Conway also had 16 points, four assists and three rebounds, Nick Floyd 13 points, six boards and two steals, and Marshall Nelson 13 points and six assists.

Lakeside Gero

SUNDAY

Lakeside Lightning (100) lost to Geraldton Buccaneers (102)

An on-point pass from Liam Hunt with 0.7 seconds left allowed Josh Keyes to hit the game winner as the Geraldton Buccaneers continued to find ways to win to beat the Lakeside Lightning 102-100 in overtime.

Both teams arrived at Lakeside Recreation Centre on Sunday afternoon fresh off Saturday night wins with the Lightning beating the South West Slammers by 22 points with the Buccaneers also downing the Perth Redbacks by 23.

That set the stage nicely for the match up and it was a tight and tense battle the entire way with the biggest margin the 10 points that Lakeside were on top by early in the piece.

Then coming to the end of regulation, the Buccs copped a couple of rough non-calls and then Isaiah Lewis ensured the game got to overtime with two clutch free throws for the Lightning.

Then coming to the end of the overtime period and Yahui Sun banked in a huge three from up top to level scores up with only 0.7 seconds remaining.

Geraldton had one last chance out of a timeout and it was a picture perfect pass from Hunt that found Keyes under the bucket, and he made the shot and the Buccs didn’t have to delay that bus trip home any further.

Geraldton improves to 8-2 as the defending champions with the pair of road wins with Devondrick Walker finishing with 30 points, six rebounds and two assists with 8/19 three-point shooting.

Josh Keyes had 20 points, nine rebounds and three assists as well as making the game winner with Liam Hunt contributing 14 points, 10 boards and four assists, Cooper Creek 14 points, nine rebounds and two blocks, and Verle Williams 10 points and seven assists.

Lakeside are now 4-8 after splitting their weekend double with Josh Davey delivering a monstrous performance with 23 points, 21 rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Michael Imariagbe added 20 points, eight rebounds and three assists, Corey Shervill 19 points, six assists and four boards, Liam Patterson 15 points and four assists, and Yahui Sun nine points, five assists and four rebounds.
