Waverley Falcons veteran Amelia Todhunter has called time on her decorated playing career following the conclusion of the 2026 NBL1 National Finals in Adelaide.
Todhunter was acknowledged following her final game on Saturday, after Waverley’s campaign concluded with an 89–73 loss to the Bankstown Bruins at the State Basketball Centre.
It brought an end to a 20-year senior career spanning approximately 750 games across NBL1, SEABL and the WNBL.
Todhunter spent the final five seasons of her career with Waverley, highlighted by the Falcons’ historic 2024 campaign, when they captured both the NBL1 South and NBL1 National Championships.
The 38-year-old helped Waverley reach the 2026 NBL1 South Grand Final before finishing her career with the Falcons at the National Finals.
Speaking with basketball journalist Megan Hustwaite earlier this month,
Todhunter reflected on her time with the Falcons and their ability to continually challenge expectations.
“Over the five years I’ve been here, every year nobody gives us a chance but we pull through and make finals and have won the championship and even the national championship,” Todhunter said.
While retiring from the NBL1 level, Todhunter plans to remain connected to the game.
“I’m sad because I love it,” she said.
“I won’t be gone from the scene but for NBL1 it’s definitely time.”
Todhunter’s time in NBL1 followed a decorated SEABL career which included five championships in seven years with the Dandenong Rangers and Grand Final MVP honours.
Her influence extended far beyond her achievements, with Todhunter widely respected for her leadership, toughness and commitment to every program she represented.
“Another great season by the Falcons Women,” Waverley Falcons President Mike Bullock said.
“Amelia, you have been a terrific player for Waverley. I wish you every happiness in the future.”
Todhunter leaves the NBL1 as a South champion, National champion and an important part of the Waverley Falcons’ most successful era.
