Spectres Women Rally Late to Claim First Win

Final Score: Nunawading 70 def. Kilsyth 68

The Nunawading Spectres Women showed heart, hustle, and a whole lot of grit in a stunning comeback victory on Sunday afternoon, storming home late to defeat the Kilsyth Cobras 70-68 and secure their first win of the 2025 NBL1 South season.

It was a see-saw battle at Kilsyth Sports Centre, with both sides hungry to notch their first win of the campaign. The Cobras controlled the first half, taking a 13-point lead into the main break as Nunawading struggled to find rhythm against Kilsyth’s defensive pressure.

But the second half belonged to the Spectres.

Led by a monster performance on the glass from Laina Snyder (11 points, 25 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals), Nunawading surged back into the contest with a dominant 27-point third term to level the scores heading into the final frame.

Kilsyth refused to go quietly, regaining a six-point edge with just over four minutes to play, but a clutch three from Abby O’Connor was the spark the Spectres needed. From there, it was all Nunawading — with Snyder knocking down two key free throws, Izzy Feller scoring inside, and Rachel Brewster coolly converting at the stripe to edge the visitors in front.

Feller finished with a team-high 17 points, along with six rebounds and two assists. Brewster added 15 points and steady leadership, while Faith Dut chipped in 12 points and three boards.

Kilsyth had a last look to steal it at the buzzer, but solid defensive effort denied them as the Spectres celebrated a hard-fought win.

The group now shifts focus to a huge mid-week clash, when they take on cross-town rival Ringwood Hawks for the GEBC Cup on Wednesday night at Norwood Secondary College. Tip-off is 6:00pm — don’t miss this battle for local bragging rights.
