Round 2 of the WNBL tipped off on Wednesday night with Tracy York's Bendigo Spirit recording their first win in 676 days with a 63-58 win over the Melbourne Boomers.
Eltham's Anneli Maley recorded her second straight double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds while Hobart's Maddie Garrick (11 points and four boards) and Frankston's Tessa Lavey (12 points and six assists) also made big contributions to the win.
The action continued on Saturday when Adelaide and Townsville took to the court for the first time this season.
The Fire came out on top thanks to a 13-point, 12-rebound double-double from Melbourne's Zitina Aokuso and 24 points, four boards and six assists from co-captain Lauren Nicholson.
Forestville star Sam Simons also made her debut for Adelaide in that game.
The round ended in a big Melbourne derby, with the Boomers bouncing back from their loss against the Spirit to record a 19-point win over Southside.
Bendigo's Tess Madgen was one of the stars of the show with 20 points and four rebounds, spoiling the party for Ipswich's Abby Bishop, who put up 15 points and 11 boards in her 250th game.
In the NBL, the round began with Mackay's Emmanuel Malou debuting for the Adelaide 36ers with six points in his side's 83-80 win over Tasmania.
South West Metro's Mitch Creek then scored the most points ever by a Phoenix player with 36 against New Zealand.
Speaking of the Breakers, Red City's Will McDowell-White had a big weekend in blue, putting up 11 points (including one huge dunk), four rebounds and eight assists against South East Melbourne and 27 points, four boards and seven dimes against Adelaide.
In the Freeway derby, it was Illawarra who came out on top with Townsville's Sam Froling pulling down 13 rebounds to go with his nine points.
Despite losing the Throwdown by eight points, Geelong's Shea Ili stepped up for Melbourne United with 14 points and three boards.
Southern Districts' Lamar Patterson completed the round with a huge double-overtime performance against Perth, recording 27 points to go with his four assists for Brisbane.
