NBL1 South: Frankston Blues
The Frankston Blues have added another win to the board to give them a strong lead for the top spot in the NBL1 South.
Beating the Ringwood Hawks by seven points on Saturday, then on the road Sunday they handed Casey a 12-point loss.
Sitting a win above the Eltham Wildcats, the addition of NBL veteran Brad Newley has been instrumental in their success early in the season.
While the likes of Lachlan Barker, Daniel Trist and Igor Hadziomerovic are all still contributing as they did in their Coles Express National Finals run last season.
NBL1 West: East Perth Eagles
The East Perth Eagles have got their first win of the season off the back of a major performance from Sebit Reath.
The young star scored 34 points with 14 rebounds in the 28-point win over the South West Slammers and conference expert Greg Hire was impressed.
“That’s a talented line-up… Sebit Reath (is) incredible,” Hire said on The NBL1 Show.
“That’s a player to watch in this league, I reckon he’s a potential NBL development player.”
Hire said it’s pleasing to see the Eagles get their first win this season and the first win for their head coach Carl Filpo.
NBL1 Central: North Adelaide Rockets
The sixth-on-the-ladder Rockets had an outstanding Round 8, beating the top-of-the-ladder Forestville Eagles and the reigning champion South Adelaide Panthers over the weekend.
On Saturday they beat the Panthers by four points, with Koop McCalop swatting five blocks and Riley Harrap scoring 26 points in the win on the road.
At home on Sunday, they beat the Eagles by five points with a monster 27 points and 11 rebounds from NBL1 East champion Akech Aliir and another 26-piece from Harrap.
The Rockets are only a win behind the Eagles and the Panthers and 12 percent behind of the Panthers on the ladder, showing how close the Central conference is.
