Match Report: Chargers Women Fall Short on the Road Against Ringwood
The Hobart Chargers were unable to contain a strong offensive performance from the Ringwood Hawks on Sunday afternoon, going down 96-84 at The Rings in their Round 10 NBL1 South Women’s clash.
Despite staying within striking distance through the first half and producing a competitive final quarter, the Chargers were hurt by Ringwood’s scoring burst in the third term, which ultimately proved decisive.
Ringwood made the stronger start to the contest, finding early offensive rhythm through Honey Kaur and Emma Clarke while Hobart worked to settle into the game. Tishara Morehouse and Tyia Singleton kept the Chargers in touch, but the Hawks held the edge early and took a 24-16 lead into the first break.
The Chargers lifted in the second quarter and were more effective offensively, with Portia Chopping and Chloe Broomhall making important contributions to keep Hobart within range. However, Ringwood continued to move the ball well and found consistent scoring through multiple contributors, taking a 46-32 advantage into halftime.
Hobart responded well after the main break and matched Ringwood for much of the third quarter, with Sharna Thompson, Chopping and Morehouse all making an impact. The Chargers scored 27 points in the term, but Ringwood continued to answer at the other end and added 29 themselves to maintain control, leading 75-59 heading into the final quarter.
To their credit, the Chargers continued to push in the fourth term and produced their best offensive stretch of the second half. Chopping and Broomhall knocked down important shots, while Thompson continued to work hard inside. Hobart won the quarter 25-21, but the deficit proved too large to overcome as Ringwood closed out the 96-84 victory.
Portia Chopping led the way for Hobart with 25 points, while Sharna Thompson recorded 19 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in an all-round performance. Chloe Broomhall was highly efficient with 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting, and Morehouse added 12 points and three assists. Singleton also contributed 12 points and seven rebounds.
For Ringwood, Honey Kaur starred with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Emma Clarke added 19 points. Chelby Koker contributed 17 points, and Taylor Mole finished with 15 points and seven assists as the Hawks produced a balanced team display.
The result sees the Chargers unable to recover from Ringwood’s fast start and strong third quarter, despite showing fight late in the contest.
Match Report: Ringwood Pull Away Late to Defeat Chargers Men
The Hobart Chargers were unable to close out a tightly contested clash on the road, going down 97-88 to the Ringwood Hawks at The Rings on Sunday afternoon in their Round 10 NBL1 South Men’s match-up.
Despite mounting a strong second-quarter fightback and pushing the Hawks deep into the contest, Hobart was undone by Ringwood’s final-quarter surge.
Ringwood made a fast start, finding their rhythm early through Jonathon Lawton and Uche Dibiamaka. The Hawks’ efficient scoring saw them build an early advantage, finishing the opening term with a 28-19 lead as Hobart worked to settle into the game.
The Chargers responded strongly in the second quarter, lifting their intensity on both ends of the floor. Jacob Richards and Anthony Drmic spearheaded the comeback effort, helping Hobart outscore Ringwood 25-18 for the period. However, despite the surge, the Hawks maintained a narrow edge and led 46-44 at halftime.
The contest remained evenly balanced in the third quarter, with both teams trading baskets in a competitive stretch. Luke Rosendale continued to provide offensive firepower for Hobart, while Dibiamaka and Chris Brandon anchored Ringwood’s scoring inside. The Chargers edged the quarter 24-22 to reduce the margin, but still trailed 68-66 heading into the final period.
Ringwood broke the game open in the fourth quarter, delivering a decisive 29-20 term to secure the victory. After Hobart had briefly drawn level early in the quarter, the Hawks capitalised on second-chance opportunities and hit timely perimeter shots to regain control. Despite late efforts from Drmic, Richards and Rosendale, the Chargers were unable to keep pace as Ringwood closed out the contest.
Luke Rosendale led the Chargers with 27 points and five assists, while Jacob Richards produced a strong all-round performance with 24 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Anthony Drmic added 20 points and six assists, and Jasper Hay contributed eight points.
For Ringwood, Uche Dibiamaka starred with 25 points, while Jonathon Lawton added 24. Chris Brandon was dominant inside, finishing with 19 points and 14 rebounds, and Tom Carroll chipped in with 11 points and nine rebounds in a well-rounded team performance.
The result sees the Chargers fall short despite a strong second-quarter response, with Ringwood’s early advantage and late-game execution proving the difference.
