South Spotlight | Cavs catch fire in Hobart

The Casey Cavaliers lit it up putting up 113 points to win by 24 on the road to the Hobart Chargers.

Dallas Loughridge, Nyaduoth Lok, Chelsea D'Angelo and Sam Bowman all had 20-plus points and combined for 16 triples as the Casey Cavaliers opened their Tasmanian road double beating the Hobart Chargers 113-89.

The Chargers were coming off their first win of the season last Saturday at MyState Bank Arena against the Northern Force with them back to Hutchins School on Friday night.

The Cavaliers arrived having won their last couple of games and they kept that momentum going to set the tone for the evening with the 16-4 start.

They ended up continuing to catch fire more and more as the night went on including 34 points in the fourth quarter and having 113 for the night on the way to the 24-point victory to improve to a 4-1 record with Hobart now slipping to 1-5 with the defeat at home.

It was a stunning offensively outburst by the Cavs with them shooting 55 per cent from the floor along with going 19/38 at 50 per cent from three-point territory along with pulling down 16 offensive rebounds and having 29 assists to just 11 turnovers.

Dallas Loughridge continued her hot form with another 27 points, eight assists and three rebounds for the Cavaliers on 11/15 shooting from the field and 4/7 from behind the arc.

Nyaduoth Lok also went 6/13 from deep for 26 points, six rebounds and three assists while Chelsea D'Angelo went 5/8 for 21 points with nine assists and five boards.

Sam Bowman had a monster performance too with 20 points, 19 rebounds and five assists with Sharne Robati adding 11 points, five boards and two assists while nailing both her three-point attempts too.

The Chargers couldn’t back up their first win of the season even though offensively it wasn’t a horrible night with 46 per cent shooting along with going 15/33 from downtown and having just the 13 turnovers.

Tishara Morehouse finished with 25 points and four assists, Sharna Thompson 24 points, three boards and two steals with 5/9 three-point shooting, Portia Chopping 15 points and two blocks, and Tyia Singleton seven points and seven rebounds.

It was a blistering start to their Tasmanian road double for the Cavaliers and they raced out to a 16-4 lead on the Chargers.

That turned into a 29-17 edge still at quarter-time for the Cavs on the back of 12 points from Nyaduoth Lok and eight from Sam Bowman while they shot at 60 per cent from the field to just 33 from the Chargers who did get eight points from Sharna Thompson on 2/3 three-point shooting.

The lead for Casey got out to 21 points in the second quarter and by the half-time break they were in control leading 50-36 with Lok having 18 points to her name, Chelsea D'Angelo 11 with four assists and they were still shooting 48 per cent opposed to the 35 from Hobart.

Both teams lifted their scoring rate in the third quarter with the Cavaliers putting up another 29 points with Hobart adding 26, and by three quarter-time it was a 79-62 advantage for the Cavs.

They completed the job with another 34 points to 27 in the final term too on the way to the 24-point victory on the back of a monster score with 113 while shooting 19 threes at 50 per cent.

Hobart now will lick their wounds and remain at home to host the Benigo Braves next Saturday while the Cavs back up in Tasmania on Anzac Day against the Northern Force.
