NBL1 North: Townsville Flames
The reigning NBL1 North champions rediscovered their identity after a slow start by pulling off three wins in three days to balance their record to 3-4 after Round 4.
On Friday they beat the Ipswich Force by 20 points, on Saturday Steph Reid’s Flames took down the Red City Roar and on Sunday they escaped Logan with a seven-point win.
The 2022 Finals MVP was named the NBL1 North Foot Locker Player of the Week averaging 26.3 points, 11 assists and 5.3 rebounds.
NBL1 East: Manly Warringah Sea Eagles
Manly rocketed to the top spot of the NBL1 East this weekend, overtaking the Sydney Comets and the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence. Beating the Comets on Friday and escaping with a two-point win against the fighting Penrith Panthers on Saturday.
Between the Delaney sisters and Kimberly Hodge, the Sea Eagles will be one of the teams to watch out for come the NBL1 East Finals.
NBL1 South: Bendigo Braves
The Bendigo Braves are out for revenge after being the runners-up in last season’s NBL1 South Grand Final.
It's one of the most stacked teams in the competition, with the likes of Amy Atwell, Megan McKay, Kelly Wilson and Cassidy McLean 0– it’s not hard to see why they are sitting at 6-0.
In Round 3 they pulled off two impressive wins, knocking off the Casey Cavaliers by 30 points on Saturday and Anneli Maley’s Eltham Wildcats by nine points on Sunday in a major weekend road trip.
NBL1 West: Joondalup Wolves
The Joondalup Wolves are also bitter after last season, after going 16-0 to start the season – they lost earlier than everyone expected in the NBL1 West Finals.
But after beating the Redbacks on Sunday by 26 points and the South West Slammers by 65 points, it’s clear that the squad of Robbi Ryan, Teige Morrell and Nes’eya Parker Williams mean business again this season.
NBL1 Central: Sturt Sabres
After beating the 2022 NBL1 Central Champions in a Grand Final re-match, the Sturt Sares have been declared title-favourites by conference expert Tristan Prentice.
“The Sabres won every single quarter, dished 26 assists and scored 21 points from turnovers,” he said on The NBL1 Show.
“They are the outright favourites in the 2023 women’s NBL1 Central.”
