FRIDAY

Perth Redbacks (113) defeated Willetton Tigers (102)

Anneli Maley announced herself onto the NBL1 West with the most remarkable individual performance the league has ever seen with a new scoring record of 65 points to lead the Perth Redbacks to the 113-102 win over the Perth Redbacks.

Maley missed the opening two games of the season while playing in China for a three-game stint with Hebei where she averaged 30 points on the back of helping to lead the Perth Lynx to another WNBL Grand Final appearance.

She then joined the Redbacks on Friday night at Belmont Oasis and put in a performance for the ages to set a new nation-wide NBL scoring record and also the highest ever score in the SBL/NBL1 West that has been recording dating back to the start of the league in 1989.

Maley finished with numbers that wouldn’t be believed if the video footage of her heroics weren’t available. She ended up with 65 points, 17 rebounds and five assists in 37:20 on 21/29 shooting from the field, 4/7 from behind the arc and 19/21 at the free-throw line with the Redbacks +13 with her out there.

It's the first win of the season for the Redbacks on the back of what Maley did with Olivia Berry adding 11 points and two assists, and Sam Ashby 10 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Willetton remain winless under new coach and former 512-game veteran Sue Williams with Ruby Porter producing 30 points, three rebounds and three assists, Emma Calvert 24 points and seven boards, and Emma Gandini 21 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and seven steals.

South West Slammers (64) lost to Rockingham Flames (90)

The South West Slammers battled valiantly but Amy Atwell, Sami Whitcomb and Teige Morrell combined for 58 points, 33 rebounds and 18 assists in the 90-64 win for the Rockingham Flames.

It was always going to be a huge test for the Slammers to make it back-to-back wins even at Eaton Recreation Centre with former league MVP's Whitcomb and Morrell joined for the first time in the Flames line-up by Perth Lynx WNBL sharpshooter Atwell.

That's as powerful as a trio as any NBL1 team is likely to put on a court, and they did all deliver for Rockingham even though to South West's credit, they put in a good showing and even were leading by two at quarter-time.

The Flames got on top with 28 points to 10 in the second quarter and then 34 to 22 in the third on the way to the eventual 26-point win to improve to 2-1.

Atwell top-scored for Rockingham coming back from Australian Gangurrus 3x3 duties with 27 points, seven rebounds and five assists on 6/15 three-point shooting.

Whitcomb put up 18 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists, three steals and two blocks with Morrell delivering 13 points, 14 boards, four assists and two blocks, and Stef Berberabe 11 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.

The Slammers are now 1-2 following the loss at home with Hana Lacey-Rameka finishing with 18 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals with 3/5 three-point shooting.

Bree Chalk added 10 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals, Marshaun Bostic 10 points, six assists and five boards, and in her 100th game, Javene Fitch seven rebounds.

Warwick Senators (80) lost to East Perth Eagles (85)

Brooke Malone caught fire in the third quarter to help keep the East Perth Eagles unbeaten this season, defeating the Warwick Senators 85-80.

It was the battle of undefeated teams at Warwick Stadium and just to add to the occasion it was the first time returning as visitors as head coach and captain at the Eagles for Jonelle Morley and Stacey Barr.

It was just a one-point lead for the Eagles at the half but they made their move in the third quarter and Malone was key to that with three bombs from downtown in quick succession.

From there East Perth were able to hold on for the five-point win to improve to 3-0 on the season with two-time championship winner and MVP contender Sarah Mortensen still to come in.

The Eagles are now just one of three teams left undefeated in the women's competition for 2026 with Brooke Malone having an especially big third quarter on her way to 24 points, six rebounds and three assists with 6/11 shooting from three-point land.

Jasmin Fejo has been tremendous to start her career with the Eagles and had another 20 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals while Stacey Barr returned to her old home court with 18 points, five assists and three rebounds.

Jade Williams played her best NBL1 game with 11 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and two steals while Sydney Wright scored 10 points.

Jayda Clark produced a standout performance all night for the Senators with 30 points, eight rebounds, five blocked shots and two assists while making 5/6 from behind the three-point line.

Chloe Forster was made to work for everything all night by East Perth but still had 19 points, nine rebounds and six assists with Mackenzie Clinch Hoycard producing nine points, six boards and three assists, and Nat Burton nine points, nine rebounds and two assists.

SATURDAY

Mandurah Magic (82) defeated Kalamunda Eastern Suns (64)

Claire Jacobs delivered a dominant showing to pick right back up from where she left off last year with 33 points to lead the Mandurah Magic to the 82-64 home win over the Kalamunda Eastern Suns.

The Magic were back home at Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre having split their opening two matches while the Suns arrived still chasing a first win of 2026.

After scores were tied at quarter-time, the Magic took over in the second period with 20 points to 12 and then continued to build on that lead for the eventual 18-point victory to improve to 2-1.

Claire Jacobs was the star in the win for Mandurah after a brilliant 2025 season where she deserved to consider herself mighty unlucky to not make the All-First Team.

She had 33 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals, and had to do it largely without sister Mia who was limited to just 12 minutes for two points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals before her night ended early.

Sydney Mears delivered 15 points and six rebounds for the Magic, Sharn Hayward 13 points and five assists, and Jade Gowland 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Gaby Bronson ended up with 14 points and eight rebounds for the winless Eastern Suns with Yume Knoll contributing 10 points, eight boards, five assists and four steals, Denae Civich eight points and five rebounds, and Alyssa Bowen eight points and six boards.

Joondalup Wolves (73) lost to Cockburn Cougars (92)

Jessie Edwards continued her dominant start to the season but the Cockburn Cougars needed a big start and finish to overcome an impressive fighting effort from the Joondalup Wolves to make it 26 straight wins.

The Cougars arrived at Arena Joondalup on a 25-game winning streak in the NBL1 West and not only have they not lost since the 2024 Grand Final, but have rarely been tested.

It didn’t look like that would change either when they were leading by 26 points during the second quarter on the back of piling on 36 in the first term.

However, from the point Cockburn were up 26 three minutes into the second quarter, the Wolves put in an impressive fight back and outscored the Cougars 44 points to 21.

That saw them cut that 26-point deficit to just three by three quarter-time, but the Cougars took control again in the final term to win by 18.

Jessie Edwards had another 29 points, nine rebounds and two assists on 11/15 shooting from the field and 7/9 at the stripe.

Alex Ciabattoni also had 17 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals, Jewel Williams 16 points, six boards and three assists, Jaya Scafidi 13 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals, and Alira Fotu 12 points, 11 boards and six assists.

Perth Lynx WNBL import Yemiyah Morris might not have scored nor attempted a shot in the first half, but she had 10 points and seven of her 12 rebounds for the game after half-time to go with two blocks.

Ella Thornton-Elliott shot 3/11 from deep for 17 points with four rebounds, three steals and two assists while Kim Pierre-Louis finished with 16 points, six boards and three assists, and Asianae Johnson 13 points, five assists and four rebounds.
