Only two points separated the teams over three quarters but the Rockingham Flames blew the Lakeside Lightning away in the third for a seventh straight NBL1 West win as reigning MVP Teige Morrell celebrated returning to her old home floor.

Rockingham arrived at Lakeside Recreation Centre as the hottest team in the competition with six straight wins as they took on the seventh placed Lightning with dual MVP winner Morrell making her first return to her former home court.

Then for the first half the Lightning threw the challenge right down to the Flames to be leading by a point at half-time, but then the Flames made their move.

Rockingham scored 22 points to nine in the third quarter and that's where the game was won with the Flames only outscoring the Lightning by two points across the other three quarters of the game.

Rockingham continued their hot form on the back of that dominant third quarter and did it with Amy Atwell away for the 3x3 World Cup with the Australian Gangurrus, and ended up shooting 51 per cent from the field and overcame having the 19 turnovers to do so.

Teige Morrell returned to her former home floor for the first time in Rockingham colours and the reigning MVP produced 20 points, five rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals on 8/12 field goal shooting.

Sara Puckett top scored once more with 26 points, eight rebounds and two steals with 4/6 shooting from behind the three-point arc with Lesila Finau contributing 15 points, nine boards, three assists and three steals.

Stef Berberabe also had 14 points, seven assists, six rebounds and two steals, and Paris Duffield nine points, four boards, three steals and two assists.

Lakeside did stick with Rockingham well outside of that third quarter and Delanie Crawford finished with 24 points and seven rebounds with 6/11 three-point shooting.

Esme Morales added 20 points, nine assists, four rebounds and two steals, Sam Roscoe 11 points, five boards and five assists, and Sam Lubcke seven points, six rebounds and three steals.

Rockingham came into the clash in hot form but Lakeside have made themselves competitive and with Teige Morrell returning to her former home floor for the first time, there was plenty to look forward to with the match up.

The Flames did lead by as much as seven in the first quarter but the advantage was just 22-20 by quarter-time with Stef Berberabe already having eight points on 4/5 shooting but Rockingham did have six turnovers to keep Lakeside in touch.

Sara Puckett was up to 12 points by half-time as well for Rockingham, but Lakeside had the better of the second term with 22 points to 19 and that saw the home team head into half-time leading 42-41.

Sam Roscoe had 11 points for Lakeside and Delanie Crawford 14 while they had forced Rockingham into 12 first half turnovers which helped the Lightning get up five extra shot attempts.

Rockingham's six-game winning streak was in jeopardy by half-time but the Flames then came out breathing fire in the third quarter going on a 10-0 scoring run and ending up outscoring the Lightning 22 points to nine to be leading 63-51 by three quarter-time.

It was then another 27 points to 24 in the last term in favour of the Flames to see them end up winning by 15 to make it seven wins on the trot.

The Lightning are now on the road next Saturday night against the Mandurah Magic with Rockingham having a double header away to the Perry Lakes Hawks on Friday and then at home to the East Perth Eagles on Saturday.
