The Southside Melbourne Flyers have filled the void left by import Sakima Walker, signing American forward Unique Thompson for the remainder of the WNBL27 Season.

Thompson returns to the WNBL after playing 21 games for Sydney in the 2025–26 season, where she averaged 16 points and 8 rebounds per game.

She was a dominant force for the Albury Wodonga Bandits in 2026, after spending the previous season up North, averaging a stellar 19.9 points, 14.6 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game.

Her 2026 season is only a glimpse into her full potential, with the forward/centre having two 40-point, 25-rebound games in her first stint at Albury.

The American earned herself an NBL1 East All-Star Five selection in 2026, after being named the 2025 NBL1 North MVP for the Mackay Meteorettes, a campaign where her team finished in the top four of NBL1 North.

CODE Sports were the first to report Thompson’s prospects as a replacement for Walker, where she said, “I am very excited [to come to Melbourne].”

Thompson’s first opportunity to play under new Head Coach Sam Mackinnon will be against her former WNBL side away from home, live from 12.30pm AEDT on 9Go! and ESPN via Disney+.
