Courtney Woods delivered 49 points, 23 rebounds and 19 assists in two NBL1 North wins for Townsville Flames with Jess McDowell-White having another triple double for Southern Districts Spartans, and Chelsea Brook helped Mackay Meteorettes stay hot.

FRIDAY

Logan Thunder (73) defeated Gold Coast Rollers (59)

The defending champion Logan Thunder built a 26-point lead and then completed the 73-59 home win against the Gold Coast Rollers 73-59.

The Thunder were back home at Bendigo Bank Cornubia Park Sports Centre having won three of four matches in their championship defence while Gold Coast had split their opening four games of 2026.

It was an impressive start from Logan with 20 points to 13 in the opening quarter before they went into the half-time break still leading 36-29.

It was then a dominant third period for the reigning champs with 26 points to 11 and that lead got out to 26 before they scored the 14-point win with Gold Coast going on a 9-0 run in the final period.

Leah Scott delivered another 20 points, eight rebounds and two assists for Logan with Mikhaela Cann adding 15 points, 11 assists, five rebounds and five steals, and Maddy Allen 12 points and two rebounds.

The Rollers are 2-3 now following the loss with Ariana Moorer producing 23 points, three steals and two rebounds with Juna Umezawa adding 10 points, six boards and two assists, and Emma Petrie 10 points and seven rebounds.

Sunshine Coast Phoenix (78) lost to Townsville Flames (82)

It took an impressive Courtney Woods triple double and a 15-0 fourth quarter run from the Townsville Flames for them to secure the road win 82-78 against the Sunshine Coast Phoenix.

The Phoenix were back home at Maroochydore Stadium looking to back up a win over the Gold Coast Rollers while the Flames arrived trying to bounce back from losing to the Cairns Dolphins for a second time already in 2026.

There was never more than nine points between the two teams all evening in a fascinating contest, but that was in favour of Townville late in the piece to cap off a remarkable final quarter.

After the Flames were up one at three quarter-time, Sunshine Coast went on a 12-0 run early in the fourth to go up six before Townville responded with 15 points in-a-row which set them on the way to the eventual four-point victory.

The win improves Townsville to 2-2 on the season with Sunshine Coast now 2-3 with the Flames ending up going 14/37 from three-point territory opposed to 8/25 which helped them overcome the Phoenix shooting better overall, and pulling down 19 offensive rebounds.

Woods delivered a massive triple double for Townsville in the win made up of 23 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists with 11/12 shooting from the foul line while only going 6/19 from the field.

Chailee Ward also finished with 14 points with 4/9 three-point shooting for the Flames with Kate Searle contributing nine points and two rebounds, Mia Murray eight points, seven boards and two steals, and Ella Tofaeono seven points and four rebounds.

Sunshine Coast couldn’t quite make it consecutive wins despite all five starters scoring in double figures with Isabel Palmer leading the way with 17 points, six rebounds and two steals with 4/8 three-point shooting.

Kayla Mathews also had 14 points, eight assists and six rebounds, Maya Price 13 points, seven boards and two assists, Erin Bollmann 13 points, six assists, five steals and four rebounds, and Amy Browne 11 points and six boards.

SATURDAY

Ipswich Force (82) defeated Brisbane Capitals (62)

The Ipswich Force snapped their three-game losing streak with a commanding performance at home to beat the Brisbane Capitals 82-62.

The Force were back home at Ipswich Basketball Stadium attempting avoid a fourth straight defeat while the Caps arrived fresh off a win in Rockhampton last Sunday.

Brisbane did open up an early seven-point lead but Ipswich hit back and by quarter-time were on top 19-13.

It was another 20 points to 13 in the second period from the Force before they continued with that momentum with 24 to 17 in the third term and went up by as much as 26 in the second half ahead of scoring the eventual 20-point triumph.

The win improves Ipswich to a 2-3 record with Valerie Huerta finishing with 18 points, four rebounds and four assists on 8/16 field goal shooting.

Olivia West added 15 points, five rebounds and four assists, Georgia Ralph 13 points, five boards, two assists and two steals, Hannah Young nine points on 3/4 three-point shooting, Charlotte Hegvold eight points and three assists, and Emily Saunders eight points and three rebounds.

Brisbane are now 2-5 to start the season with Alyssa Brown delivering 21 points, four rebounds and two steals with Ashley Harris finishing with 16 points, eight boards and two steals, and Keriana Hippolite 10 points and two rebounds.

Gold Coast Rollers (51) lost to South West Metro Pirates (60)

The South West Metro Pirates restricted the Gold Coast Rollers to just the 17 points in the second half with Hannah Simental leading them to a breakthrough 60-51 victory.

Gold Coast were back home at Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium trying to bounce back from a road loss to Logan Thunder on Friday with South West Metro arriving having lost their opening four matches of 2026.

The Rollers made the flying start on their home floor to be leading 22-12 by quarter-time but things got tougher for them over the last 30 minutes.

South West Metro managed 17 points to 12 in the second quarter but still Gold Coast were clinging to the 34-29 lead by half-time.

It was all the Pirates from there with 16 points to six in the third period, and 15 to 11 in the fourth on the way to the nine-point victory to open their account for 2026.

Hannah Simental starred in the win with 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Jenna Kilty also had nine points and two rebounds, Steph Bairstow nine points and eight boards, Charlotte Whittaker eight points, seven rebounds and two assists, and Alana Fraser seven points, six boards and three steals.

Gold Coast are now 2-4 following their pair of losses for the weekend with Juna Umezawa finishing with 21 points, seven rebounds and two steals.

Emma Petrie also had nine points, 11 rebounds, three steals and two assists, Jayla Cassidy seven points and four boards, and Ariana Moorer six points, four rebounds and four assists.

Northside Wizards (84) lost to Townsville Flames (89)

Courtney Woods had another monster performance to lead the Townsville Flames to the double win road weekend with the 89-84 victory against the Northside Wizards.

The Flames started their road double with the four-point win over the Sunshine Coast Phoenix on Friday night with Woods have a huge triple double consisting of 23 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

She might not have had a triple double again on Saturday night at Northside Indoor Sports Centre but went almighty close although the Wizards didn’t go away and it was a tremendous contest.

Northside were up four midway through the fourth quarter but then Townsville went on an 11-0 scoring run which was enough to secure the eventual five-point win to improve the Flames to a 3-2 record with the pair of road wins this weekend.

On the back of her huge triple double the night before, Woods was again outstanding with 26 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists and two steals in the win.

She did that while shooting 7/13 from the field and 11/11 at the free-throw line.

Chailee Ward added 21 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Flames with 5/12 three-point shooting while Mia Murray went 4/6 from three-point territory for 16 points, four boards and two assists.

Bree Stephens added eight points, five rebounds and two blocks, and Ella Tofaeono seven points, four assists and two rebounds.

The Wizards are now 2-2 following the loss at home with Grace Ellis having a standout night with 24 points, 15 rebounds and three assists with 8/17 shooting from the field and 6/6 at the foul line.

Kahlaijah Dean added 20 points and five assists with Nes'eya Parker-Williams having all 17 of her points up to three quarter-time along with nine rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals.

Courtney Virgo had a blistering start with 12 of her 15 points coming in the first term and she also finished with three rebounds while shooting 5/9 from downtown.

North Gold Coast Seahawks (70) lost to Southern Districts Spartans (77)

The Southern Districts Spartans needed another impressive triple double from Jess McDowell-White to overcome the North Gold Coast Seahawks for the 77-70 victory.

The Seahawks were back home at Runaway Bay Indoor Stadium still hunting a first win on their return to the NBL1 North in 2026 while the Spartans arrived having won five of six so far after last year's heartbreaking Grand Final loss in three games to Logan.

The Spartans did go on a 10-0 run in the first quarter to open up an eight-point advantage before still leading 19-15 at quarter-time.

It was another 19 points to 13 in their favour in the second frame which saw Southern Districts head into half-time leading 38-28 before going on to complete the seven-point victory in the finish.

It was another triple double on the season for Jess McDowell-White in the win with 22 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists while shooting 9/17 from the floor and 4/10 from behind the arc.

Hayley McDowell-White added 17 points, four assists and three rebounds, Paige Bayliss 10 points, three boards and two steals, Abby Solway 10 points, four rebounds and two steals, and Emily Preston eight points, four boards and four assists.

The Seahawks might have suffered a fourth straight loss to start the season, but Katie Deeble did all she could with 25 points, seven rebounds and three assists with 4/10 three-point shooting.

Georgia Woolley added 14 points, five rebounds and four assists with Antoniette Emma-Nnopu adding 15 points, 14 boards and five assists.

Rockhampton Cyclones (71) lost to Mackay Meteorettes (103)

The Mackay Meteorettes put up 59 points in the first half on the way to the 103-71 road win over the Rockhampton Cyclones with Chelsea Brook starring with 24 points and going 4/5 from downtown.

The Cyclones were back home at Bravus Arena and still hunting a first win of the season while the Meteorettes arrived having won their past three.

Mackay managed to open up a seven-point lead in the first quarter before being on top 24-20 by quarter-time and then taking further control in the second frame.

The Meteorettes went on a 12-0 scoring run and piled on 35 points to 13 for the quarter to go into half-time in control leading 59-33.

That lead grew to 38 points in the last quarter as well before Mackay went on to score the 32-point victory to make it four in-a-row to improve to a 5-1 record.

Chelsea Brook led the charge for Mackay with 24 points, eight rebounds and three steals with 4/5 three-point shooting and going 10/15 overall.

River Baldwin added 14 points, seven rebounds and two assists, Monique Bobongie 14 points, nine assists, five boards and two steals, Sammie Puisis 13 points and four assists, Eden Catip 12 points, and Nikita Muscat 10 points and three rebounds.

Rockhampton are now 0-4 to start the season with Gracie Stugart just missing out on a triple double with 21 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and two steals on 8/13 field goal shooting.

Bella Janes added 11 points, Tai Wakelin-Gray 10 points, seven rebounds, five steals, four assists and two blocks, and Shanique Lucas nine points and five assists.
