North Spotlight | Woolley stars as Seahawks keep building

The North Gold Coast Seahawks have now five of the last seven NBL1 North games after beating the South West Metro Pirates by 20 points on Sunday.

Katie Deeble had another 13 points in the first 10 minutes and then Georgia Woolley finished with 28 as the North Gold Coast Seahawks continued to build impressive NBL1 North form beating the South West Metro Pirates 92-72 on Sunday.

The Seahawks were back home at Runaway Bay Indoor Stadium having won four of the past six matches ahead of hosting a Pirates having lost to Logan Thunder the previous night by 22 points on the back of last week's 24-point defeat to the Sunshine Coast Phoenix.

North Gold Coast were playing their lone game of the weekend and got out to an early nine-point lead and never looked back with that advantage growing to 16 points in the second quarter and 31 in the third.

Eventually the Seahawks secured the 20-point victory to improve to a 5-6 record having won five of the past seven matches to be right in the playoff hunt while the Pirates are now 3-9 after two losses this weekend.

North Gold Coast finished up shooting 47 per cent from the floor to the 34 from South West Metro while pulling down 19 offensive rebounds on the top 37 at the defensive end with the Pirates missing 46 shots and another 17 from the free-throw line.

It was another impressive performance from the Seahawks as they continue to build under new coach Brayden Heslehurst with Georgia Woolley starring with 28 points, 12 rebounds and there steals on 10/18 field goal shooting and going 7/8 at the free-throw line.

Katie Deeble again started on fire with 13 points in the first quarter on her way to 20 points, eight assists and four rebounds with Charlize Brown contributing 10 points, 11 boards and three assists, and Antoniette Emma-Nnopu eight points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

Hannah Simental finished with 17 points and five assists with 5/7 three-point shooting for South West Metro with Charlotte Whittaker having nine points in the first quarter and 17 for the game to go with 11 rebounds and four assists.

Steph Bairstow also had nine points, two rebounds and two steals, and Bronte Corke seven points three boards.

The Seahawks were playing their lone game of the weekend hosting a Pirates team who had lost the previous night also on the road to Logan Thunder, and it was the home team getting the better of the start with an early nine-point edge.

North Gold Coast were still leading 26-20 by quarter-time with Katie Deeble making another hot start with 13 points and 3/4 three-point shooting.

The Seahawks had another 23 points to 17 in the second frame to go into half-time leading 49-37 thanks to shooting 58 per cent from the field to 35 from the Pirates with Georgia Woolley up to 16 points while Chloe Whittaker and Hannah Simental had 12 points apiece for South West.

It was then an even more dominant third frame from the Seahawks with 31 points to 12 to be leading 80-49 by three quarter-time with that game high lead of 31 before the Pirates did have 23 points to 12 at least in the final term to cut the final margin back to 20.

North Gold Coast will look to keep their momentum going next Sunday at home to Logan Thunder with South West Metro trying to avoid a fourth straight loss when they are away to the Northside Wizards.
