There is a level of excitement surrounding the 15 person committee that has been formed to drive RedCity Roar's NBL1 program for 2023. As an enity RedCity Roar is still a toddler having celebrated it third birthday last month. The mission of the Association was to grow the game and build a pathway. Membership exploded with the creation of a junior club based competition and then covid gave the Association an unexpected leg up to NBL1. When the proposed 2020 NBL1 season was cancelled due to covid, QSL became the highest level of competition available, it afforded RedCity Roar the opportunity to compete against NBL1 clubs. Off the back of a succesfull 2020 QSL season and great game presentation, the Association accepted an invitation to enter NBL1 for the inaugural 2021 season, essentially a year after the club was formed.
A shift in focus over the next few years is critical for the Association. Securing a home that can accommodate the demand and building the processes and resources to deliver services and programs is a key part of the clubs next strat plan.
Jason Fiddes, the Association's founding President is the chair of the NBL1 committee. Jason is an advocate for mental health and wellbeing and has a history in player wellfare having most recently worked with the New Zealand Warriors NRL team. Jason is also the "voice" of the Den calling RedCity NB1 games. The chair reports monthy to the Association's President and Treasurer and Management Committee meetings, with the aim of having the NBL1 program generate enough revenue to make it sustainable.
From the chair Jason Fiddes, “Excited is the only word I can use right now. With an established committee, the return of head coaches Colby Stefanovic and Cassie Dover, a signed core group for both teams, and major player signing announcements on the way, excited is the word to use. I’m glad the season starts earlier in 2023. We’ll be ready to roar!”
Another key member to the NBL1 committee is Lisa Johnston who looks after partnerships for NBL1 for RedCity. Lisa has an extensive background in event management and nuturing corporate relationships. There will be a number of partnership annoncements to be made in the coming weeks.
From Redcity Roar General Manager, Peter Pollock, "The energy and activity of this committee has been amazing! The level of skills and experience that each person brings to the table is first class."
