In a nail-bitter NBL1 Wildcard game, Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence Women’s squad beat the Willetton Tigers 75-72, off the back of CoE star Isobel Borlase’s fourth-quarter performance.
She had 11 points and two steals alone in the fourth quarter, which completely flipped the game in favour of the now 7-4 squad. She finished the game with 18 points and six rebounds, while star teammate Nyadiew Puoch had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Willetton did not disappoint as the Footlocker Player of the Week Alex Sharp put up 25 points, eight rebounds and four assists in the close Thursday night clash.
The Tigers are third on the NBL1 West ladder and looked like the better team for most of the game, with the CoE only leading by two at the half. But the veteran Tigers weren’t a match for Borlase’s fourth quarter.
The Women’s CoE has plenty of more games coming up as on Saturday they’ll face the 16-1 Joondalup Wolves. Then they will head up to Queensland to face the undefeated Logan Thunder on Monday and the 15-2 Southern District Spartans on Tuesday.
