The Hobart Chargers secured an important home victory on Friday night, holding off a fast-finishing Dandenong Rangers side to claim a 100-95 win at the Hutchins School in their Round 7 NBL1 South Women’s clash.
In a high-scoring contest that featured multiple momentum shifts, Hobart controlled large portions of the game before withstanding a late surge from the Rangers to close out a five-point win.
The opening quarter was tightly contested, with both teams trading baskets in an up-tempo start. Tishara Morehouse and Tyia Singleton provided early scoring for Hobart, while Imogen Rock led the way for Dandenong. The Rangers edged the term 24-23, setting up a closely fought encounter.
Hobart responded strongly in the second quarter, finding rhythm offensively through Morehouse, Singleton and Sharna Thompson. The Chargers lifted their efficiency inside and generated scoring opportunities in transition, gradually taking control of the contest. They outscored Dandenong 30-21 in the period to carry a 53-45 lead into halftime.
The third quarter saw a shift in momentum as Dandenong mounted a strong response. Rock and Manuela Puoch led the charge, with the Rangers lifting their scoring output and applying pressure on Hobart’s defence. Dandenong won the quarter 31-22 to close the gap to just 75-76 at three-quarter time, setting up a tense final period.
The fourth quarter delivered a dramatic finish. Both teams traded baskets throughout a tightly contested final term, with the lead changing hands multiple times. Morehouse continued to drive Hobart’s offence, supported by key contributions from Singleton and Thompson. Dandenong remained within striking distance through Rock and Sophie Taylor, narrowing the margin late in the game.
However, the Chargers showed composure in the final moments. Crucial baskets and free throws from Singleton and Morehouse, along with defensive stops in the closing possessions, helped Hobart maintain their narrow advantage and secure the 100-95 victory.
Tishara Morehouse produced an outstanding all-round performance for Hobart with 29 points, six assists and six steals, while Tyia Singleton added 26 points on efficient shooting. Sharna Thompson contributed 23 points and five assists, with the trio leading a strong offensive display.
For Dandenong, Imogen Rock led all scorers with 30 points and nine rebounds, while Manuela Puoch added 19 points and Sophie Taylor contributed 15. Adrianna Smith also made an impact with 12 points and six assists in a competitive team effort.
The result sees the Chargers return to winning form at home, holding firm in a high-pressure finish after controlling much of the contest earlier in the game. The Chargers women will now turn their attention to a quick turnaround, hosting the Diamond Valley Eagles at the Hutchins School at 5:00pm on Saturday 16th May.

Despite a standout individual performance and a strong second-half push, the Chargers were unable to recover from Dandenong’s dominant opening quarter, with the Rangers holding on in a tense finish.
Dandenong made a blistering start to the contest, capitalising on early scoring opportunities and shooting efficiency from the perimeter. Joe Palmer led the charge from beyond the arc, supported by Harrison Froling and Michael Meadows, as the Rangers surged to a commanding 38-22 lead at quarter time.
Hobart steadied in the second quarter, lifting their defensive effort and improving their offensive execution. Jacob Richards began to find his rhythm, while Noah Clarke and Anthony Drmic contributed important scoring. The Chargers outscored Dandenong 23-19 for the term, reducing the margin to 57-45 at halftime.
The momentum continued into the third quarter as Hobart mounted a strong comeback. Richards took control offensively, supported by contributions from Nicholas Paul and Drmic, as the Chargers chipped away at the deficit. Hobart won the quarter 27-20 to cut the margin to just five points, trailing 77-72 heading into the final period.
The final quarter delivered a tightly contested finish, with Hobart continuing to apply pressure. Richards led the charge with aggressive drives and free-throw shooting, while Paul made an impact on the boards. The Chargers closed the margin to within a single possession during the closing minutes.
However, Dandenong responded at crucial moments. Key baskets and late free throws from Froling and Meadows, along with composure under pressure, allowed the Rangers to maintain their lead and hold off Hobart’s challenge to secure the 98-94 victory.
Jacob Richards delivered an outstanding performance for the Chargers with a game-high 37 points and nine rebounds, while Anthony Drmic added 17 points and five assists. Noah Clarke contributed 16 points, and Nicholas Paul recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
For Dandenong, Joe Palmer led the scoring with 33 points, including strong perimeter shooting, while Harrison Froling added 23 points and eight rebounds. Michael Meadows contributed 17 points and 10 rebounds, with a balanced team effort helping the Rangers secure the win.
The result sees the Chargers narrowly miss out at home, with Dandenong’s dominant first-quarter performance proving the difference in an otherwise competitive contest. The Chargers men will now turn their attention to a quick turnaround, hosting the Diamond Valley Eagles at the Hutchins School at 7:00pm on Saturday 16th May.
