Libby Schoenfeld Appointed SpectresHead Coach

The Nunawading Spectres have appointed Libby Schoenfeld as their NBL1 Women’s head coach for the 2027 season.

Schoenfeld steps into the role after serving on Nunawading’s NBL1 coaching staff since 2021, continuing a long association with the Spectres as both a player and coach.

“Nunawading has been a huge part of my life, and I’m incredibly proud of where I’ve come from,” Schoenfeld said.

“There have been a number of people who have invested in me throughout my journey and helped me grow as a coach.

“I’ve been fortunate to learn from some great coaches, work with talented athletes and gain experience across different levels of the game, and I’m excited to bring all of that into this role.

“This is an opportunity to continue to build something that our players, staff, juniors and the broader Spectres community can be proud of.”

Schoenfeld replaces outgoing head coach Paul Flynn, who will continue with Nunawading in his position as General Manager – Representative, Brand and Commercial.

Flynn said Schoenfeld’s progression through the Spectres program demonstrated the importance of providing development opportunities for coaches as well as players.

“We spend a lot of time talking about pathways for athletes, but genuine pathways need to exist for coaches as well,” Flynn said.

“For a young coach who grew up in our program to now have the opportunity to lead our NBL1 Women is something we should be incredibly proud of.

“But ultimately, Libby has been appointed because she’s ready. She’s done the work and earned the opportunity to lead.”

Flynn said Schoenfeld’s understanding of Nunawading’s junior and senior programs would be valuable as she begins shaping the team for 2027.

“This is her team now. She deserves the opportunity to put her own stamp on it, build her staff and create the environment she wants our athletes to be part of.

“We’re incredibly excited to see where she takes it.”
