From NBL1 Central to the South — Micale Mee Joins the PIONEERS BASKETBALL CLUB

The Mount Gambier Pioneers are pleased to announce the signing of Micale Mee, who will join the Castec Rural Pioneers for the 2026 NBL1 South season.

The 25-year-old 198cm guard, known for his defensive presence and playmaking instincts, will add depth to the Pioneers roster as he makes the jump to the South conference in 2025.

Mee arrives in Mount Gambier following his 2025 campaign with the Eastern Mavericks in NBL1 Central, where he averaged 5.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game across 18 appearances. His combination of size, athleticism, and two-way ability brings depth and versatility to the Pioneers’ backcourt rotation.

Before competing in Australia, he built a strong collegiate career in the United States, representing Texas Wesleyan University (NAIA) and Spoon River College (JUCO), where he consistently demonstrated leadership and efficiency on both ends of the floor.

A former All-Conference First Team honouree and NJCAA D2 Rocky District Finalist, Mee continues to grow as a professional athlete, bringing experience, maturity, and a relentless work ethic to Mount Gambier’s 2026 campaign.

Head Coach Pete Godfrey expressed enthusiasm about Micale’s arrival and what he’ll contribute to the team’s identity.

“Micale is reputed as a hard working, high basketball IQ, athlete, and will certainly bolster our depth in 2026 on the wings and on the defensive end of the floor.”

“Hungry to grow and develop his game Micale is sure to revel in the opportunity afforded by the Pioneers ecosystem. I am really looking forward to working with him in 2026.”

Head Coach Pete also shared some history of Micale’s Lineage:
“As a short aside, for the historians of the Australian basketball landscape, Micale's surname may ring a bell for some. 'Mee' is connected to a couple of NBL Championships and a number of Defensive Player of the Year Awards from the mid 90s through to the mid 00s. Micale's pedigree speaks for itself.” he said.

Micale Mee shared his excitement about joining the Pioneers and representing the Mount Gambier community.

“I am extremely exited to be apart of this new era for the Pioneers, and looking forward to playing under Coach Godfrey continuing to expand my game and showcase what I can do.”

The Castec Rural Pioneers will tip off their 2026 NBL1 South campaign soon, pre-season activities are about to start.
