Corey Jeffs took on the challenge, and delivered, as Kilsyth Cobras powered past Ringwood Hawks 96–78 to open the NBL1 South 2026 season at 2–0.

Tasked with a key defensive assignment, Jeffs embraced the role from the outset and set the tone with his effort, physicality and presence on the glass.

“I knew I had that TC (Tom Carroll) assignment tonight, and I have a lot of respect for TC,” Jeffs said.

“So I took it as a great challenge and accepted it, and sort of didn’t want him to get anything on me.”

Jeffs finished with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists, but his impact went beyond the numbers.

He disrupted possessions, controlled the boards and consistently made the right play, helping Kilsyth establish control across the night.

“Just go and clean up as much stuff as I can and cause as much chaos as possible,” he said.

Kilsyth built separation through sustained pressure and control, with contributions across the lineup allowing them to pull away and close out the 18-point win.

It continues a strong start to the season for the Cobras, who remain unbeaten through two games.

“Yeah, really good,” Jeffs said.

“It feels better because we’re not even playing our best basketball yet.”

“We’ve got a lot of things to work on, but 2–0’s better than 1–1 or 0–2, so we’ll take it.”
