CASTEC RURAL PIONEERS RE-SIGN ALEX MUDRONJA FOR 2026 NBL1 SOUTH SEASON

The Castec Rural Pioneers are pleased to confirm the re-signing of Alex Mudronja for the 2026 NBL1 South season, securing one of the club’s most reliable and impactful performers from the 2025 NBL1 South season.

Mudronja made a strong impression during his time with the Pioneers last season, providing consistent scoring, perimeter shooting, and composure in key moments across the season.

Alex’s ability to stretch the floor and make plays within the team structure added an important offensive dimension to the group in 2025, whilst his work rate and professionalism quickly made him a valued presence within the group.

Currently, Mudronja is continuing his profession career overseas, competing with Fortaleza Basquete Cearense in Brazil’s top professional league, the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB), during the 2025/26 season. While an early-season injury limited his availability, Mudronja has made an immediate impact upon returning to the court.

Across the six games he has played so far this season, Mudronja is averaging 20.7 points per game, showcasing his scoring ability against high-level international competition. He has also contributed 3.7 rebounds and 1.0 steal per game, while shooting with outstanding efficiency — knocking down 50 per cent from three-point range and an impressive 80 per cent from the field.

His production and efficiency underline the offensive threat he brings when healthy and in rhythm.

Mudronja is expected to join the Pioneers group following the conclusion of his commitments in Brazil, with his return to Mount Gambier anticipated in May. His continued exposure to high-level international competition in the NBB is expected to further strengthen the squad as the team builds towards the start of the 2026 NBL1 South season.

Castec Rural Pioneers Men’s Head Coach Pete Godfrey said Mudronja’s re-signing was an important piece of the club’s roster build.

“When the opportunity arose to re-sign Alex for a major part of 26 it was one that we absolutely wanted to take. Alex is in that young-veteran class where he has a significant body of work behind him already while still having plenty of great basketball ahead.” he said.

“Given his role and tenure last season, his versatility in the guard spot, and based on my conversations with him, Alex will slot seamlessly into the line-up when he arrives." he added.

Mudronja said he was excited to return to Mount Gambier and build on what he started with the Pioneers.

“I’m ecstatic to be back with the Pioneers for 2026. The professionalism of the club and the love and support of the community is what brought me back. It’s a special place and I’m excited to have another successful season at the Pioneers!”

The Castec Rural Pioneers will continue to announce further signings and roster updates as the club builds towards the 2026 NBL1 South season.
