Castec Rural Pioneers edge Hobart Chargers in 101–100 thriller

The Castec Rural Pioneers have held off a late charge from the Hobart Chargers to secure a dramatic 101–100 victory on the road in a game that went down to the final possession.
 
It was a tight contest from the opening tip, with both teams trading baskets early in a fast-paced first quarter. Mt Gambier found consistent contributions through Alex Mudronja, who was heavily involved in the offensive flow, while Ngor Manyang and Lucas Gordon provided strong presence around the rim to keep the Pioneers in the contest. Hobart responded through perimeter shooting and transition play to ensure the game remained within a narrow margin.
 
The Pioneers began to build control in the second quarter, tightening their defensive pressure and improving execution in the half court. Titus Robinson and Lucas Gordon were effective inside, while Collin Moore and Scott Telfer provided valuable minutes to stabilise rotations and maintain structure. Mt Gambier were able to edge ahead going into halftime after a strong finish to the quarter.
 
The third quarter remained a back-and-forth battle, with Hobart finding rhythm at times through their guard play and outside shooting, but the Pioneers consistently responded. Alex Mudronja continued to lead offensive sequences, while team defence and rebounding efforts helped Mt Gambier maintain a narrow advantage heading into the final period.
 
The fourth quarter turned into a high-pressure finish, with Hobart launching a strong late surge to bring the game back to within a single possession. However, the Castec Rural Pioneers held their composure in the closing moments, making key stops and timely plays to withstand the Chargers’ push and secure the 101–100 win.
 
Alex Mudronja was central throughout the contest, leading the offensive structure and stepping up in key moments. Ngor Manyang and Lucas Gordon provided important interior impact, while Collin Moore and Scott Telfer contributed valuable support in a tightly contested team effort that delivered an important road victory.
