Wolves men’s captain Salinas back for NBL1

The Joondalup Wolves have re-signed Sebastian “Seb” Salinas for the 2021 NBL1 West season.

The Joondalup Wolves have re-signed Sebastian “Seb” Salinas for the 2021 NBL1 West season.

The 6’2” forward has played for the Wolves since 2009 and will be hitting a 450-game milestone during the NBL1 West season in 2021. Salinas spoke to the Joondalup Wolves about returning for another season and his thoughts on SBL becoming NBL1 West.

“It was a very easy decision to re-sign with the Wolves for the 2021 season,” he said.

“My kids are huge Wolfpack fans so they would have been very upset if I didn’t. Also, we have a great group of guys that work hard and play for each other and our coaching and support staff will give us the best opportunity to be successful.

“I’m looking forward to what we can achieve in the clubs first NBL1 season.

“It is a really exciting time for the club to be a part of the NBL1 West next season. It is a massive win for basketball in WA for the players and teams to get more opportunity and exposure at a national level and is something that I am really looking forward to.

“All the teams will be looking to have bragging rights as the first NBL1 West champion, however, the Wolves has transformed into one of the most professional clubs in recent years, so I am looking forward to the men's and woman's teams being title contenders again in 2021.”

Joondalup CEO and men’s head coach Andrew Summerville shared his thoughts on Salinas returning.

“It is great to have Seb sign on again for 2021,” he said.

“Seb showed this year that he can still compete at this level and is still a valuable asset to our program. Every game this year Seb had to guard the other team’s best player and he probably got the better of most of them, including guys that weren’t even born by the time Seb had played 100 games in this league.

“He is our leader and our most reliable player. Considering he has three children and a busy job, his commitment to the club is outstanding. I have never met a guy who is more competitive than Seb, he wants to win and wants to succeed at everything he does.

“I’m really excited for Seb to play again and based on his current form I can see him having another great year in green.”

Seb will be joining Lochlan Cummings on the Wolves men’s 2021 roster.
