Jessie Edwards had a monster weekend with 68 points and 27 rebounds as Cockburn Cougars locked in top spot in NBL1 West with Rockingham Flames securing second while Mandurah Magic kept pressure on for fourth and Joondalup Wolves had a stirring win in Kalgoorlie.

FRIDAY

South West Slammers (50) lost to Kalamunda Eastern Suns (87)

The hopes of the Kalamunda Eastern Suns making the playoffs might still be almightily slim but their only hope is to win their remaining games and they did that emphatically with the 87-50 win over the South West Slammers.

The Suns arrived at Eaton Recreation Centre still a game behind the eighth placed Perth Redbacks with just two to play but they had won their last two and have put together an impressive second half of the season.

It was South West with the better of the start, though, in their last home game of 2026 with 15 points to 10 in the first quarter only for Kalamunda to respond with 22 points to 10 in the second term to go into half-time leading 32-25.

It was then a total domination from the Eastern Suns in the second half with 26 points to 16 in the third period and 29 to nine in the fourth on the way to the 37-point victory.

The Suns do remain a playoff chance at 7-12 with a game to finish against the also out of contention Willetton Tigers with Gaby Bronson shining with 30 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Alyssa Bowen added 12 points and four rebounds, Yume Knoll 10 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals, Emma Strelein 10 points, six boards, four assists and three steals, and Trista Hull 10 points with a massive 26 rebounds along with five steals.

The Slammers have now lost their last 10 to be 3-16 with Casey Paea finishing with 21 points, five steals and three assists while Melanie Hoyt contributed 10 points and nine boards, and Courtney Bayliss five points, six rebounds and three assists.

Perth Redbacks (53) lost to Mandurah Magic (92)

The Mandurah Magic continue to gear themselves to have a real crack at the top four teams with another ominous performance beating the Perth Redbacks 92-53.

The Magic came into the match up at Belmont Oasis knowing they could still finish fourth should they win their remaining three matches while the Redbacks were sitting eighth and also had to win to stay there.

It was a remarkable start from Mandurah with a 15-0 run to open the game in the first four minutes before eventually the Redbacks got on the board thanks to Shenae Hartree.

But still the Redbacks managed three points in the first quarter on 1/14 shooting and from there the Magic remained in control on the way to the eventual 39-point victory with another 28 points to 10 in the fourth quarter to improve to a 12-6 record to join the Warwick Senators at the same mark.

The Magic have now won seven of their last eight games to be building some impressive momentum with Mia Jacobs catching fire in the second quarter on her way to 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals with 4/8 shooting from the outside.

Mikayla Pivec had another 19 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals, Claire Jacobs 18 points, three steals, two boards and two assists, Sharn Hayward 12 points and four rebounds, Jade Gowland seven points, seven rebounds and two assists, and Georgia Adams six points and two rebounds.

The Redbacks are now 7-11 on the season left fighting for their playoff lives with Patty Brossmann finishing with 13 points, 11 rebounds and two steals.

Sophie Doran also had eight points and five steals, Olivia Berry seven points and three rebounds, Alaska Rhebok seven points and four boards, and Sam Ashby seven points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals on 3/15 shooting.

Perry Lakes Hawks (80) lost to Cockburn Cougars (91)

Once again the Cockburn Cougars were challenged but delivered a big final quarter to retain top spot with the 91-80 win over the Perry Lakes Hawks with Jessie Edwards dominating with 33 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots.

Coming into the game at Bendat Basketball Centre and the Hawks had to win their last two games and need a whole lot to go their way to be any hope of reaching the playoffs while the Cougars did also need to keep on winning to stay in first place.

Cockburn made a strong start away from home with an early eight-point lead but Perry Lakes hit back with an 11-0 run and were leading 25-24 by quarter-time.

The Cougars fired back with 11 straight points in the second frame and had 27 points to 14 overall in the quarter to go into half-time on top 51-39.

The momentum swings continued with 25 points to 15 in the third term from Perry Lakes but then Cockburn had 25 to 16 in the final period to secure the 11-point win and end any finals hopes the Hawks still had in the process.

Cockburn improve to a 16-2 record with eight straight wins to stay clear in first place with Jessie Edwards dominating inside with the Hawks dearly missing Bridgette Rettstatt once more.

Edwards had 33 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots on 14/18 field shooting with Jaya Scafidi adding 18 points, four boards and four assists, and Daniel Raber another triple double made up of 15 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists.

Perry Lakes are now 6-13 with the four consecutive defeats with Eva Smith having a breakout performance with 21 points and three steals with 5/9 three-point shooting.

Emilie Beggs also had 13 points, Nicola Moore 12 points, three rebounds and two assists, Mila Wawszkowicz 10 points, three boards, two assists and two steals, and Makenna Marisa nine points, 11 assists and five rebounds.

SATURDAY

Mandurah Magic (84) defeated Perry Lakes Hawks (48)

The Mandurah Magic continued their ominous form and kept the pressure on for fourth place with the dominant 84-48 win at home to the Perry Lakes Hawks.

Both teams had played the previous night with the Hawks' playoff chances ending with the loss to the Cockburn Cougars while the Magic kept their impressive form going beating the Perth Redbacks by 39 points on the road.

They were back home at Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre and if they keep winning they remain a chance to break into the top four should the Warwick Senators suffer a slip up.

It was a dominant start from the Magic with the Hawks playing their last game of the season and no longer having anything to play for.

Mandurah had a 20-0 run in the first quarter after starting Friday's win with a 15-0 streak and they were already leading 26-12 by quarter-time.

The Magic remained in control with another 24 points to 14 in the second quarter and then with 22 to 12 in the last after another 13 straight points, they cruised to the 36-point win.

The victory improves Mandurah to a 13-6 record to remain a chance of fourth position with Claire Jacobs shining again with 25 points, five rebounds and five assists with 4/7 three-point shooting.

Mikayla Pivec added another 20 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists, Mia Jacobs 14 points, 22 boards, three assists and two steals, and Jade Gowland nine points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Perry Lakes end their season losing their past five matches at 6-14 with Mia Bailey top scoring with 13 points and six rebounds with Makenna Marisa adding 10 points, 10 boards and four assists, and Ellie Newman eight points and three rebounds.

Cockburn Cougars (97) defeated Perth Redbacks (75)

The Cockburn Cougars all but confirmed themselves a third regular season championship in four years with the 97-75 home win over the Perth Redbacks on a night where they were celebrating the 350th game of Taryn Priestly.

Technically Priestly might have played her 350th game in the league back in her first appearance of 2026 returning as a new mum with her 349th appearance coming in the 2024 Grand Final, but the Cougars were celebrating her milestone on Saturday night at Wally Hagan Stadium.

They were playing to guarantee themselves first place as well while the Redbacks also needed a win to try and move back into the top eight following their hefty Friday night loss at home to the Mandurah Magic.

The Cougars took charge from the outset to already be leading 22-16 by quarter-time before another 28 points to 16 in the second frame to go into half-time on top 50-32.

That lead for Cockburn got out to 33 points early in the fourth quarter before the Redbacks did end the game with a 26-point final period to cut the final margin in favour of the Cougars to 22.

Cockburn improve to a 17-2 record with nine straight wins to remain clear in top spot with Jessie Edwards dominating once more with another 35 points, 16 rebounds and two assists with 12/14 shooting from the field and 11/13 at the foul line.

Daniel Raber also had 21 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals, Cierra Walker 16 points, seven boards and three steals, and Jaya Scafidi nine points, three rebounds and two assists.

Perth are now 7-12 and outside the top eight after their pair losses to top five teams this weekend with Olivia Berry putting up 29 points with 11/18 field goal shooting and going 3/6 from the outside.

Sam Ashby added 16 points, three rebounds and three steals, Aimee Borchet eight points, six boards and two steals, and Nyamer Diew eight points and six rebounds.

Lakeside Lightning (64) lost to Warwick Senators (91)

The Warwick Senators denied the Lakeside Lightning a chance to move into position for a home final by retaining fourth position themselves with the 91-64 road victory.

The Lightning came into the weekend in seventh position and had a chance to move up to sixth by winning their last two games to earn a home final while the Senators also needed to keep winning to stay fourth with the Mandurah Magic breathing down their necks.

Warwick welcomed back Jayda Clark from a knee injury and started on fire with a 12-0 run in the first quarter to be leading 32-14 by quarter-time.

The Senators had another 23 points to 16 in the second quarter and then another 24 to 16 in the third to be leading by as much as 34 points and then securing the 27-point victory.

The win improves Warwick to a 13-6 record to stay fourth with Mackenzie Clinch Hoycard putting up 22 points, five rebounds and five assists with 6/10 three-point shooting.

Chloe Forster added 21 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and four steals, Kyana Weir 12 points with 4/8 shooting from the outside, and the returning Jayda Clark 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Lakeside are 8-11 with Esme Morales producing 20 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals while Delanie Crawford added 14 points, 10 boards, three assists and two steals, and Sam Roscoe eight points and seven rebounds.

Rockingham Flames (98) defeated Willetton Tigers (62)

The Rockingham Flames locked away their hold on second position with a dominant 98-62 home win against the Willetton Tigers with another 23 points and 10 rebounds from Sara Puckett.

The Flames were back home at Mike Barnett Sports Complex sitting second and one more win would see them stay there with them holding the season split over the third placed East Perth Eagles who they are on a collision course with for that first week of the finals.

Willetton arrived after ending their 11-game losing streak last Saturday against the Warwick Senators, but the Flames started on fire with a 12-0 run in the first quarter for the 32-14 lead by quarter-time.

It was another 21 points to 13 in the second quarter from the Flames to go into the half-time interval on top 53-27 before the home team continued on their way with 22 points to 15 in the third frame, and 23 to 20 in the fourth.

That saw Rockingham secure the 36-point win to improve to a 15-4 record to stay in second position with Sara Puckett delivering 23 points and 10 rebounds with 4/6 shooting from the outside.

Teige Morrell also had 18 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and three steals, Paris Duffield 16 points on 4/7 three-point shooting in her 202nd game, Tiana Wilson-Palmer 13 points and six rebounds, Lesila Finau 13 points, seven boards and five assists, and Stef Berberabe eight points, six assists and five steals.

Willetton are now 4-15 with the loss with Emma Calvert producing 23 points and eight rebounds with Emma Gandini producing 12 points, nine boards, four steals and three assists, and Carla Drennan seven points.

Goldfields Giants (86) lost to Joondalup Wolves (93)

The Goldfields Giants missed a golden chance to secure a home final with the Joondalup Wolves taking charge after Yemiyah Morris fouled out finishing with a 21-5 run to secure the 93-86 win to enhance their playoff hopes.

It was a big game for both teams at Kalgoorlie's Evolution Mining Stadium in their second last matches of the season with the Giants secure in the top eight but a chance to earn a home while the Wolfpack were trying to return to the top eight.

It was an exciting first quarter display from both teams as they combined for 55 points with Joondalup leading 30-25 by quarter-time with Kim Pierre-Louis having nine points and four rebounds.

The Wolfpack were shooting at 59 per cent to 40 from the Giants but Goldfields responded with 23 points to 18 in the second frame on the way to levelling scores at 48-48 by half-time.

The Giants were able to work on top in the third quarter with a 9-0 run seeing them lead by 10 and still being in front 73-65 by three quarter-time with MVP favourite Sierra Moore already having another double double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Morris picked up her fifth foul early in the fourth quarter for the Wolves and not long after the Giants were leading by nine when her direct opponent Delaynie Byrne scored.

That's when the game underwent a dramatic transformation starting with a three ball to the Wolves from Rosie Deegan.

A few minutes later and Pierre-Louis scored to put Joondalup in front all of a sudden after an 11-1 run before she also nailed a huge three to push the lead out to four to make it a 14-1 run from when they were down nine.

Leach then sealed the seven-point win for the Wolfpack with another three ball and it moves them back up to seventh position at 8-11 as a result while the Giants do stay sixth but now must beat the Warwick Senators on the road next week to stay there.

Kim Pierre-Louis has had an outstanding first season in the NBL1 West to be going closer every time she steps on the court to locking in a spot in the All-First Team. She had another 23 points, 14 rebounds, three assists and three steals with 3/4 three-point shooting.

Awatea Leach added 19 points with 5/6 shooting from the outside, Asianae Johnson 17 points, nine boards, five assists, two steals and two blocks, Rosie Deegan 10 points, five boards and two assists, and Yemiyah Morris eight points, seven rebounds and two blocks before fouling out.

Sierra Moore was playing her second game back from an ankle injury and the MVP favourite produced 20 points, 13 rebounds and five assists while front court partner Delaynie Byrne had another 15 points, 19 boards, three assists and two steals.

Chloe Zorzi also had 15 points, two rebounds and two assists, Hazelle Yam 12 points, 10 boards and four assists, Lexi Pana 11 points, five assists, five steals and three rebounds, and Rachel Pettit eight points and five boards.
