NBL1 is pleased to announce that Tyrone Thwaites has officially stepped into the position of NBL1 General Manager on Monday the 16th of February, marking an exciting new chapter for the league and its continued collaboration with the state basketball organisations.
Joining with a wealth of experience in the NBL1 space, Thwaites spent the last year and a half as Chief Basketball Officer at Basketball WA, as well as several years prior with the Cockburn Basketball Association as their CEO while also spending time as the Head Coach of their NBL1 Women’s side, which he led to an NBL1 West Championship in 2023.
Thwaites comes into the role following the recent departure of Dean Anglin, whose leadership since the NBL1’s inception in 2019 has been instrumental in building a nationally connected competition delivered in partnership with state basketball bodies and their clubs. This connection has led to an outstanding product that has had significant impact on the growth of basketball and its pathways in Australia.
Thwaites expressed great excitement about stepping into the position, and delivered plenty of praise to Anglin when speaking about the position the league is in right now.
“I’m incredibly excited to step into this role with NBL1 and work with all our partners to continue building upon what is already such a fantastic product,” Thwaites said.
“The work that Dean has done over the last few years alongside our conferences and clubs to position the league for continued growth deserves an enormous amount of credit.
“Off the back of what was our most successful season to date, I’m looking forward to help carrying that momentum into the future.”
The season kicks off with NBL1 Central action on Saturday March 21. You can catch all the action live and free on NBL1.com.au, the NBL1 app, and Kayo Freebies.
