Tom Daly appointed Mount Gambier Pioneers Head Coach

Tom Daly has been appointed Head Coach of the Mount Gambier Pioneers’ men’s team for the NBL1 South 2027 season.

Daly moves into the position after more than a decade with Mount Gambier as a player and assistant coach.

The guard joined the Pioneers in 2013 and served as captain for five seasons. He was part of three SEABL championship teams and was named Championship Game MVP in 2017.

Daly also received All-SEABL recognition, was named the competition’s Under-23 Youth Player of the Year and became a Pioneers Life Member in 2025.

After retiring as a player at the end of the 2024 season, Daly joined Richard Hill’s coaching staff as an assistant in 2025.

He was appointed Coaching Director of Basketball Mount Gambier earlier this year and will continue in that position alongside his NBL1 South responsibilities.

Pioneers Basketball Club President Tom Kosch said Daly would now begin assembling the team’s roster for next season.

“Tom’s leadership and direction will encourage the growth and development of the next wave of players through our NBL1 program,” Kosch said.

“Tom will begin working on the recruitment of our roster for the NBL1 South 2027 season, with a focus on instilling a team identity built on hard work, toughness and community.”

Daly said he was looking forward to taking charge of the program.

“I am honoured to be appointed as Head Coach of the Pioneers,” Daly said.

“We’re getting straight to work on finding every possible edge in an extremely high-level competition. The challenge won’t be easy, but that’s what makes it exciting.

“We are committed to relentless improvement, unity and representing our club with integrity and determination.”
