Level Up: NBL1 gun Krebs embraces new NBL role

The South East Melbourne Phoenix have announced their leadership group for the Hungry Jack's NBL27 Season, and it comes with a new NBL1 addition.

New Phoenix recruit Tanner Krebs will join a four-man group consisting of Nathan Sobey, Knox Raiders centre Jordan Hunter, and Kilsyth Cobras guard Angus Glover.

Krebs had a strong season with the Casey Cavaliers, his first with the club, and his sixth in the NBL1.

The wing averaged 18.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1 steal per game while shooting 38 per cent from three-point range.

During the 2026 season, when Krebs scored 19 or more, the Cavaliers won five of their seven contests, highlighting his importance to their side.

The pick of those was a 24-point win against Mount Gambier where Krebs led from the front, scoring 44 points, including going 8-11 from downtown.

The 30-year-old has established himself within the NBL as one of the most durable, and one of the League's best sharpshooters, but can now further his reputation as a leader.

The Phoenix will commence their NBL27 campaign in the west against Perth on Saturday, September 19, tipping off at 9.30pm AEST.
