Tamboran Darwin SALTIES secure Sean MacDonald for 2024 NBL1 Season!

This year is shaping up to be a record-breaker for the Tamboran Darwin SALTIES NBL1 men’s team, with Tasmanian Jack Jumpers guard Sean MacDonald set to return to the NT club for a second year.

MacDonald, who started every game for the SALTIES last season, is having an outstanding NBL season in Tasmania and will play an important role for the Top End team this year. 

Originally from Melbourne, MacDonald will be a key player for the SALTIES in 2024 with an impressive NBL track record averaging more than 20 minutes a game and shooting an outstanding 47 per cent from the three-point line.

MacDonald is looking forward to the 2024 season and said it was an easy decision to return to the SALTIES.

“I never really thought about going anywhere else – Darwin is a great place to live, and I feel we have a little unfinished business from last season,” he said.

While the North is a tough league, MacDonald said it was clear the club was striving to make an impact in NBL1.

“It is something I love being a part of up there, and I am looking forward to a new season and challenge with the new roster.”

SALTIES NBL1 Men’s Coach Matt Flinn said Sean MacDonald’s signing was a significant move for the club, and signalled the program and basketball is rapidly growing in the Territory.

“To have a player like Sean decide to come back means that what we are creating here is special,” he said.

“As a quality player and person, we decided early that we want to build the club around Sean.”

Flinn said Sean’s determination, leadership at the point guard position and incredible defence made him an asset to the team. 

“He always plays to a standard that inspires his teammates and coaches. We expect him to take on a significant leadership role within this group, and I can’t want to coach him again.”

The SALTIES start the 2024 season at home at Ventia Darwin Basketball Stadium against the Cairns Dolphins and Marlins on Saturday, 13 April 2024 from 6pm ACST.
