The Sydney Comets will be revisiting their 'Astronauts' roots this Heritage Round, revealing a stunning throwback jersey inspired by their original 1979 identity.
An original franchise team in the NBL, the Astronauts played in one of the league's first ever games during the opening night on 24th of February 1979, where they took on the Glenelg Tigers at Apollo Stadium, and spent three seasons in the NBL before becoming the Sydney SuperSonics.
The throwback jersey being worn this weekend will be inspired by the blue and yellow colours tied to the CIty of Sydney and its flag, colours that were depicted on the original Astronauts jerseys.
The Astronauts name was a nod to a proud early sponsor of the club, Astronaut Travel, with the jersey being worn this weekend recreated by Courtside based on an original Astronauts jersey they had kept in their archives.
The Comets have two huge double-headers coming up this weekend against the Sutherland Sharks and Centre of Excellence, and this new Heritage Round look will surely give them an extra boost.
