After an undefeated three-game campaign in FIBA World Cup Qualifier games in Melbourne, the Australian Boomers are bound for the FIBA Asia Cup in Jakarta to defend their title after winning gold in 2017.

The NBL1 will be strongly represented in the Boomers again for the Asia Cup. Seven NBL1 stars have been selected for the team with Sam Froling (Townsville Heat), Sam McDaniel (Hobart Chargers), David Okwera (Sandringham), Wani Swaka Lo Buluk (USC Rip City), Tyrese Proctor (Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence), Mitch McCarron and Kenau Pinder (Northside Wizards).

After going 6-0 in the performance in the Qualifiers, Australia will be in contention for gold once again.

North Gold Coast Seahawks star Jack McVeigh will miss the tournament due to a shoulder injury and Geelong Supercat Jack White will be with the Denver Nuggets at Summer League.

Boomers’ Asia Cup Head Coach, Mike Kelly, is excited to pick up where the team left off in Melbourne.

“We are bringing an exciting group of players to compete for gold at the Asia Cup, we have a great blend of experience and talented young players,” Kelly said.

“I’m happy to have a lot of continuity with players, coaches and staff from our recent successful qualifiers in Melbourne.”

The FIBA Asia Cup tips off next Tuesday July 12th when Australia take on Jordan at 6pm AEST.
