Sam Woosnam ready for NBL1 South Select opportunity

Sam Woosnam will lead the NBL1 South Select Team into Monday night’s clash with Team China’s Under 18 Men, embracing the chance to guide one of the conference’s most exciting young groups on the international stage.

The Dandenong Rangers head coach said the opportunity to represent the league and work with a new group in a different environment was one she was looking forward to.

“I’m honoured to represent the league and coach a talented group of young men against international competition,” Woosnam said.

“Having most of the team as competitors during the year, it’s nice to get to know them and have the opportunity to coach them.”

Monday night’s clash will bring together players from across the conference for a one off representative matchup, with Woosnam eager to see what the group can produce in a different setting.

“A win,” she said.

“Mostly to have some fun against international competition and an experience that some of the players may not have again.”

Woosnam said the group reflects the depth of emerging talent across the South and believes the Select Team environment gives them the chance to showcase that in a new way.

“The playing group is exciting and represents the strength of the young talent we have in the South,” she said.

“I’m excited to see what they can do together in a relaxed environment where they can have some fun.”

While preparation has been limited, Woosnam expects Monday night to present a strong test against one of the world’s premier junior pathways.

“Without a lot of knowledge of the Chinese team, I expect a high quality physical contest,” she said.

NBL1 South Select takes on Team China Under 18 Men on Monday night at Courtside Port Melbourne, with tip off set for 7:00pm.
