Round 9 Preview: OneFortyOne Pioneers vs Ringwood Hawks

The OneFortyOne Pioneers back up at home in their Round 9 clash at Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre against the Ringwood Hawks, with the Pioneers looking to bounce back in front of the Pioneer faithful.

 

Mt Gambier enters the contest with a 6-6 record and an opportunity to respond after a tough Round 8 double-header, while Ringwood arrives searching for answers at 1-11 on the season.

 

Despite the Hawks’ record, Ringwood still presents plenty of offensive threats, led by import forward Honey Kaur who is averaging 16.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, alongside sharpshooting guard Taylor Mole who is contributing 16.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game.

 

Chelby Koker has also been a consistent contributor for the Hawks, averaging 13.0 points per game while shooting an impressive 48.8 per cent from beyond the arc.

 

Ringwood’s ability to score from the perimeter remains one of their biggest strengths, ranking among the competition’s better three-point shooting teams at 36.0 per cent from long range.

 

After a strong start to 2026 the OneFortyOne Pioneers, have struggled for consistency in the last few rounds as the roster has also battled injuries of the likes of Kelsey Rees. This Friday night presents an opportunity to protect home court and climb the NBL1 South standings.

 

Mt Gambier has shown throughout the season it can match it with the competition’s best when playing its brand of fast-paced, aggressive basketball, and the Pioneers will be looking to bring that intensity from the opening tip.

 

The battle on the glass will again be a major focus, with Ringwood averaging 37.9 rebounds per game, while the Hawks also move the ball effectively with 18.0 assists per contest.

 

Containing Ringwood’s perimeter scoring and limiting second-chance opportunities will be key areas for the Pioneers heading into Friday night’s clash.

 

With finals positioning beginning to take shape across the NBL1 South season, every game continues to carry added importance as the competition approaches the halfway point of the year.
