This Saturday, the Force drive down the Midland highway to play at Mystate Bank Arena in
what will be a spectacle against the Hobart Chargers.
A battle within the state, the Chargers will be gearing up for a massive night, with their 30
year celebrations occurring.
The Northern Force are looking to spoil the party, and one player who is excited for the
match up is men’s player, Cameron Brown.
Brown who has over 150 games of experience in the SEABL/NBL1 has been on both sides
of this rivalry. Spending 10 years with the Chargers before moving up to the coast, where he
has suited up for the NW Thunder and now, the Northern Force.
Brown was asked about the derby game, “You are often playing against players you have
either grown up playing against, or with at different points in time and that makes the match
up very different.” Brown referred to Chargers player, Joe Chillcott, whom Brown noted
they’d played over 50 games together between representing Tasmania or in the NBL1 and
just as many against each other. “You’re playing for bragging rights against some of your
best mates on the court, while showcasing what Tasmania have to offer.”
Brown also mentioned a personal touch to the game; suiting up against his younger brother,
Luke Brown, “There’s a good chance we drive in and leave together from the game, but
once that ball is thrown up in the air, it’s about doing whatever I can to help our team get the
win.”
When asked about their first win and what it meant to the team, Brown spoke about how
they now know as a team that they can get it done in close games. “We can review those
games [from the weekend] and identify what our path to winning is, which will help us
establish our identity as a group and keep building up from there.” Brown gave an
abundance of credit to new coach, Jayden Smith, speaking about his ability to build a close
culture within their playing group in such a short period of time. “He [Smith] was able to build
a tight knit group of players all on the same page.”
Saturday will be a tough match up for the men. They go into the game 1-3 and Chargers are
3-1, with the likes of Rosendale, Richards and Drimic bringing havoc on the scoring end.
Brown recognised the talent that the Chargers have, but has full belief that his team can get
it done, “They’ll get their runs, as they are a talented team, but I feel as the underdogs, we
need to be the team that outworks them, and battle away for the full 40 minutes
