The outcome of the North West Thunder's opening round game remains up in the air after a power outage brought the NBL1 South match to a grinding halt.

Spectators at Ulverstone Sport and Leisure Centre were thrust into darkness with 1:24 on the clock after a possum came into contact with TasNetwork equipment in the region.

At the time of the stoppage, the Thunder were trailing interstate rivals, Hobart Chargers, by one point, 84-85.

Momentum had been with the home side at the time of the outage, with the Thunder scoring the last seven points of the match.

As a result, the league will convene its advisory panel to determine "the outcome of the game".

"To ensure the most fair and correct decision is made, the NBL1 South league advisory panel will meet to decide the outcome of the game," it said in a statement on Saturday night.

While the result remains unclear, North West Thunder chairman James Leslie said the game was a victory either way with a record, sell-out crowd of 1026 in attendance.

"I think we've got this really strange momentum push and everyone's in such a good place with local basketball," Leslie said.

"Everyone was so involved and as a spectacle, it was a win. From our end, we're taking it as a victory on the basis we get people out of their homes on a Saturday night."

Kye Savage led the Thunder's scoring charge with 24 points and four rebounds, while captain Tre Armstrong added 21 points.

The Thunder will return to their home court on Friday, April 11, when they host Ballarat Miners.
