MOUNT GAMBIER, SA – The One-Forty-One Mount Gambier Pioneers women’s team are back in action this weekend after a 5-week drought due to another Covid-19 outbreak closing boarders and adding restrictions.
The Pioneers will have a tough outing on the road with a double header away facing the Kilsyth Cobras and the Nunawading Spectres.
The Pioneers have had a tough start to the season losing close battles, however they are ready to turn it around this weekend.
The Kilsyth Cobras are sitting 8th on the ladder after defeating Ballart last weekend.
The Kilsyth Cobras have 195cm WNBL centre Lauren Scherf who is averaging a double-double for the season.
On Sunday afternoon July 4 the Pioneers face Nunawading Spectres who are currently sitting in 6th place. The Spectres defeated Waverly last weekend quite easily and are looking to keep the ball rolling. The Spectres are led by Izzy Wright who is averaging 17.7ppg.
Both games will be tough for the Pioneers although I have no doubt they will persevere.

MEN
MOUNT GAMBIER, SA - The Mount Gambier Pioneers men’s team are also on the road this weekend facing both Kilsyth Cobras and Nunawading Spectres. The Pioneers haven’t taken the court in over a month and are ready to get their season back rolling.
The Pioneers are off to a good start as they currently sit 5th on the ladder with a 6-3 win-loss record.
Duom Dawam is leading the Pioneers this season averaging a double-double (19.8 points and 10.6 7 Rebounds) while Kane De Wit is dishing out 6.6 assists per game and is sitting 5th overall across all NBL1 leagues.
The Kilsyth Cobras had a tough loss last night losing to the Hobart Chargers, so they will be trying to secure a win for the weekend.
The Cobras will have talented and team leading scorer Isaac Tuner who averages 22.3 points per game.
The Pioneers face the Nunawading Spectres in Game 2 of the weekend. The Spectres are led by 206cm forward Dain Swetella. Swatella was 2020 NBL1 finals MVP and is averaging 18.5 points per game this season.
After a few unavoidable hurdles, the Pioneers are ready to take the court and show everyone that the Pioneers came ready to play.
