Pioneers Finals Announcement | 2022

The 2022 NBL1 South finals series is on the doorstep! Whilst the Pioneers had secured their place in the finals at the completion of round 14, final positions on the ladder were well and truly up for grabs to guarantee the top eight in both the women's and men's draw.

Our OneFortyOne and Castec Rural Pioneers completed their final game of the regular season on the road this afternoon against the Waverly Falcons. With a number of tied ladder positions of both win-loss records and percentages, the league has reviewed head-to-head scenarios of a number of clubs to determine the ladder standings in both the women's and men's fixtures. We are excited to confirm that both the OneFortyOne and Castec Rural Pioneers have finished the regular season, securing top four finishes.

On 15 wins and 7 losses, the OneFortyOne Pioneers women have finished the regular season in third position, and our Castec Rural Pioneers have secured second spot. A top four finish has earned both our teams a double chance, along with guaranteed the opportunity to host a home final over the three-week final series. For the Castec Rural Pioneers, this will mean we will host third placed Kilsyth Cobra's at the Ice House in the first semi-final this Friday, August 19, whilst the OneFortyOne Pioneers will be on the road to take on the Ringwood Hawks on Saturday, August 20.

For both the OneFortyOne and Castec Rural Pioneers, a win would advance the teams to a Preliminary final on Sunday, August 28. A loss for either team in week one of finals would mean a second semi-final at the Ice House on Friday August 26.

The NBL1 South Conference Grand Final is to be played off in Melbourne at the State Basketball Centre on Saturday, September 3. Winners of their respective conferences will then go on to play off in the NBL1 National Final weekend across the weekend of September 9 – 11.
