The OneFortyOne Pioneers have continued their commitment to developing local talent, with Claire Mitchell earning a place on the roster for the 2026 NBL1 South season.
Mitchell’s selection highlights the strength of the Basketball Mount Gambier pathway, progressing from local junior competitions through to representative basketball and now into the Pioneers program.
A product of the Mount Gambier system, Mitchell has represented the region at a high level, including selection in the South Australia Country squad and competing at the Australian Junior Basketball Championships, showcasing her ability against the nation’s top emerging talent.
She has also been part of the Limestone Coast Academy of Sport, a high-performance program designed to bridge the gap between local competition and elite pathways, further strengthening her development both on and off the court.
Having progressed through the Pioneers development system, Mitchell has continued to build her game through consistent performances locally, earning recognition for her work ethic, competitiveness, and willingness to improve.
Her elevation to the roster is a reflection of the club’s focus on creating genuine opportunities for local athletes to rise through the ranks and represent their community at the NBL1 South level.
Women’s Head Coach Matt Sutton said Mitchell’s progression through the pathway is exactly what the program is built on.
“Claire has been working really hard and is extremely coachable. She plays with a high IQ and can really shoot the feet set three at a high level.”
Mitchell said she was grateful for the opportunity to represent her hometown club at the next level.
“I am excited, grateful, and proud to be part of the Pioneers squad in 2026. I am looking forward to continuing to develop my game and to learn and experience basketball at a higher level. I am looking forward to an awesome season with great coaching staff and a talented group of players.”
With Round 1 of the 2026 NBL1 South season fast approaching, the Mount Gambier Pioneers continue to build a balanced roster of experienced players and emerging local talent, as the OneFortyOne Pioneers prepare to take the court at Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre.
