The Mount Gambier Pioneers have added international experience to their women’s roster, signing American guard Abby Prohaska as an injury replacement player for the 2026 NBL1 South season.
Prohaska joins the OneFortyOne Pioneers following her recent stint in Germany with Eisvögel USC Freiburg, where she has been competing in the top-tier DBBL competition. In the 2025–26 season, she has averaged approximately 15.0 points per game across 12 appearances, highlighting her ability to contribute offensively at a professional level.
A 175cm guard, Prohaska brings a strong collegiate résumé, having played at both Notre Dame and San Diego State University. During her final NCAA season with San Diego State, she stepped into a starting role and averaged 10.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game, earning All-Mountain West honours.
Earlier in her college career, she was part of Notre Dame’s team that reached the NCAA National Championship game, gaining valuable experience in a high-performance environment.
Prohaska’s signing comes following a recent team update, with the club requiring depth in the guard rotation after Tayah Burrows’ operation delaying her arrival in Mount Gambier ahead of the NBL1 South season. Her ability to handle the ball, create for others, and contribute across multiple statistical categories makes her a strong fit for the Pioneers system.
Women’s Head Coach Matt Sutton is grateful for Prohaska’s signing given the limited time.
“We are really lucky to find Abby on short notice, she’s a real professional that plays with physicality and is a true professional.”
“We look forward to welcoming Abby and getting to work over the Easter break.” he added.
Prohaska said she is excited for the opportunity to join the Pioneers and compete in the NBL1 South.
“I’m incredibly excited to be joining the Pioneers for the upcoming season. It’s a great opportunity to compete at a high level in Australia, and I can’t wait to get to work with the team, connect with the fans, and help push for a strong season together!”
With Round 1 being concluded this weekend, the OneFortyOne Pioneers shifts their focus towards the Round 2 of NBL1 South Season 2026.
