The Northern Force will celebrate one of the most significant moments in Tasmanian basketball history tonight, as members of the 1996 North West Boags Originals reunite to mark the 30th anniversary of their CBA National Championship.
Held alongside tonight's NBL1 South men's game against Eltham, the reunion will bring together former players, coaches, volunteers, supporters and families to celebrate a team whose legacy continues to shape basketball across Northern Tasmania.
The evening also marks the annual Todd Nothrop Memorial Game, honouring the memory of a young basketballer whose connection to the Originals remains deeply embedded within the North West basketball community. Todd passed away in 1995 following a battle with cancer, and his legacy continues to be recognised each year through this special fixture.
While tonight is a celebration of an historic championship, it is equally an opportunity to acknowledge the people who helped build the game in Northern Tasmania.
Many members of the Originals have remained involved in basketball long after their playing careers, contributing as coaches, administrators, volunteers and mentors. Their efforts helped establish a proud basketball culture and a pathway that continues today through the Northern Force and Tasmanian basketball.
Former teammates have travelled from across Australia to reunite for the milestone, reflecting the enduring bonds formed during one of the state's most memorable basketball seasons.
Thirty years after lifting the CBA Championship trophy, the achievements of the North West Boags Originals remain a source of pride for the Tasmanian basketball community. Tonight's celebration is an opportunity to recognise not only a championship-winning team, but the people whose passion and commitment helped leave a lasting legacy on the sport.
The Northern Force welcomes the Originals back to Ulverstone and looks forward to celebrating their remarkable contribution to Tasmanian basketball throughout tonight's festivities.
