The Castec Rural Pioneers return to Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre on Friday night, hosting the Hobart Chargers in a key Round 6 clash of the NBL1 South season.
Mount Gambier enters the contest following on from splitting their road trip against league powerhouses Knox and Sandringham.
The Castec Rural Pioneers will be looking to bounce back in front of their home crowd following their last home court showing against Waverley.
Adding to the occasion, Alex Mudronja will play his first home game for 2026 on Wulanda’s show court. Alex provided an important boost for the Pioneers in round 5 as he strengthens the clubs’ men’s roster.
Standing in their way is a Hobart side that has made an impressive start to the 2026 campaign, arriving with a 5–2 record and establishing themselves as one of the early contenders.
The Chargers present a balanced offensive unit, averaging over 92 points per game while shooting efficiently from the field. Their ability to generate scoring opportunities across multiple players has been a feature throughout the opening rounds, making them a difficult matchup on both ends of the floor.
Leading the charge is Luke Rosendale, who has been one of the standout performers in the competition to start the season. The guard is averaging 26.0 points per game, combining high-volume scoring with strong perimeter shooting, and will be a focal point for the Pioneers’ defensive attention.
Jacob Richards has also been a dominant presence, producing 25.6 points and 10.0 rebounds per game while shooting above 60 per cent from the field. His ability to impact both inside and out provides Hobart with a versatile scoring option, while also creating opportunities for teammates.
Adding further depth, Anthony Drmic has made an immediate impact since joining the lineup, contributing 20.5 points per game along with strong rebounding and defensive pressure. His experience and scoring ability adds another layer to an already potent Chargers offence.
For the Castec Rural Pioneers, the challenge will be maintaining defensive intensity across four quarters while continuing to execute offensively. After showing their ability to perform in key moments in recent outings, Mount Gambier will be looking to translate that into a consistent performance against one of the competition’s most in-form teams.
With both sides capable of putting up points, Friday night shapes as a high-level contest at Wulanda, with the Pioneers aiming to protect home court.
