The Ballarat Junior Miners had three teams travel down to Bendigo on the weekend of Saturday 4 Feb to Sunday 5 Feb 2023 to take part in the Victorian 3×3 Big Hustle National Championship qualifier.
The Ballarat Junior U14 girls played some fantastic team basketball, being an all bottom age team the girls faced some strong competition but with smarts and determination the girls proved they were up to the challenge and were able to win their grand final in their age group and now are through to the nationals which will be played in Ballarat on April 21 & 22.
Team: Emmerson Moore, Ashlee Beseler, Milla O’Donohue, Milla Rundell
The U14 boys made it to the quarter-finals and unfortunately went down by one point. Again, the boy’s team were bottom age playing against many top age teams so the effort and result were one to be proud of.
Team: Dex Rizolli, Logan Munro, River Sisic, Oliver Power
The U12 girls made it to the semis and went down by 2 points, and played off for 3rd spot and just fell short by 1 point. Which meant missing out on playing at nationals by that 1-point game.
Team: Ella Smyth, Isabella Watson, Mia Van Hammond, Dakodah Pearce
Never less, all players should be very proud of the way they played over the weekend. Learning and adapting to a different style of basketball over such a short time, with no training is a credit to all! Getting around to each others games and making some noise was great to see, and some true Ballarat spirit was shown by all involved
