Match Report: Hot-Shooting Cavaliers Pull Away from Chargers at Hutchins
The Hobart Chargers were overpowered by a relentless and efficient Casey Cavaliers outfit on Friday evening, falling 113-89 at Hutchins School in their Round 4 NBL1 South Women’s clash.
Despite strong individual performances and competitive stretches across the contest, the Chargers were unable to contain Casey’s offensive firepower, with the visitors producing a high-scoring performance built on elite shooting efficiency and dominance on the glass.
Casey set the tone early, capitalising on second-chance opportunities and early perimeter success to open up separation in the first quarter. Hobart battled to generate clean looks as the Cavaliers pushed the pace, with Dallas Loughridge and Nyaduoth Lok doing early damage. The Chargers found scoring through Sharna Thompson and Tishara Morehouse, but Casey’s efficiency saw them take a 29-17 lead at quarter time.
The second quarter saw Hobart lift their intensity, with Portia Chopping providing a spark from the perimeter and Morehouse beginning to attack downhill with purpose. Tyia Singleton worked hard on the boards, and the Chargers briefly found rhythm offensively, but Casey continued to punish defensive lapses.
Chelsea D’Angelo orchestrated the Cavaliers’ attack effectively, while Lok and Samantha Bowman combined to maintain scoreboard pressure. Despite Hobart winning sections of the quarter, Casey’s shot-making ensured they carried a commanding 50-36 lead into the main break.
Hobart emerged from halftime with renewed intent and produced their best stretch of the game in the third quarter. Morehouse and Thompson led the charge offensively, with timely shooting and aggressive drives helping close the margin. Chloe Broomhall contributed on both ends, and the Chargers briefly made inroads as their transition game lifted.
Any momentum gained, however, was quickly answered by Casey. Loughridge continued her outstanding night with scoring bursts inside and out, while Lok and D’Angelo knocked down crucial perimeter shots. Bowman’s presence inside proved decisive, as the Cavaliers regained control to extend their advantage to 79-62 by three-quarter time.
The fourth quarter saw both sides trade scoring as Hobart continued to compete. Thompson found the range from deep, Morehouse remained aggressive attacking the basket, and Chopping added further perimeter scoring. Nevertheless, Casey’s depth and offensive balance proved decisive.
The Cavaliers closed strongly, led by Loughridge and Bowman, with consistent execution and second-chance points ensuring there would be no late charge from the Chargers. Casey’s 34-point final quarter underlined the difference on the night, as they secured the 113-89 victory.
Tishara Morehouse led Hobart with 25 points, adding four assists and attacking consistently throughout the contest. Sharna Thompson was influential with 24 points, including five three-pointers, while Portia Chopping finished with an efficient 15 points. Chloe Broomhall contributed 12 points and seven rebounds, and Tyia Singleton added nine points and 11 rebounds in a strong interior effort.
For Casey, Dallas Loughridge delivered a standout performance with 27 points and eight assists, supported by Nyaduoth Lok’s 26 points and sharpshooting display. Chelsea D’Angelo added 21 points and nine assists, while Samantha Bowman was dominant inside with a double-double of 20 points and 19 rebounds.
The loss sees the Chargers unable to build on last week’s breakthrough victory, but the performance again showed promising signs offensively. Hobart will look to tighten defensively and convert momentum more consistently as they continue their NBL1 South campaign.
