Staying put: Meteorette youngster enters the 'Fire Pit'

The Townsville Fire have made another splash this offseason as they look to replicate their championship run in WNBL27, signing exciting prospect Cheyenne Bobongie.

The 2008-born guard continued her strong development in her third NBL1 North season for the Mackay Meteorettes, averaging 11.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 6.1 assists, whilst also converting one triple per game.

She was a solid contributor in Mackay's NBL1 North triumph, producing nine assists in the decider against the Townsville Flames and her now-WNBL head coach, Shannon Seebohm.

Her form carried over to the NBL1 National Finals, averaging 14 points, six rebounds, and nine assists, as she continues to grow her game.

The Australian U-17 talent said she was thrilled to get started, having progressed through the North Queensland pathway to the WNBL, now facing an opportunity to take her game to the next level and learn within a professional environment.

"Growing up in North Queensland, you know what the Fire represents and the success the club has had, so to now have the chance to train and play alongside these athletes is pretty special.

"I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can, working hard and making the most of the opportunity."

The Townsville Fire open their title defence against their Grand Final opponents last year, facing the Perth Lynx at the Perth High Performance Centre on October 17.
