The Perth Lynx have announced another acquisition on the eve of the WNBL27 Season, signing Reece Anticevic as an amateur player, pending League approval.
The West Australian returns home after spending time in the NBL1 East playing for the Centre of Excellence.
The 2008-born forward had a career-best NBL1 campaign, averaging 6.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per game in 15.5 minutes in more than 20 appearances.
For Anticevic, the step up to the WNBL marks a strong year of development.
She was the only West Australian representative to be selected in the Australian Gems extended squad ahead of the FIBA Under-18 Women’s Asia Cup, and this potential was a major drawcard for Lynx Head Coach Ryan Petrik.
“Reece is an exciting young player coming through the WA pathway, and we’re really pleased to have her join us,” Petrik said.
“She’s already had some fantastic experiences for someone so young. Moving away from home to the Centre of Excellence, competing in NBL1 and representing Australia has exposed her to really strong high-performance environments.
“She’s still only 18, so there’s plenty of development ahead of her, but we think putting her alongside our experienced players and giving her exposure to the WNBL environment is going to be really valuable.
“It’s also really important to us that talented young WA players can see a pathway into the Perth Lynx, and Reece is another great example of that.”
The Cockburn product, who played 10 games in the Cougars’ title-winning NBL1 West campaign in 2025, was excited to be taking the next step in her basketball career.
“I’m incredibly excited to be joining the Perth Lynx and to have the opportunity to play at home in WA,” Anticevic said.
“Moving to Canberra and being part of the Centre of Excellence has been a massive experience for me.
“I’ve been able to train every day in a high-performance environment, compete against really good players, and learn a lot about what it takes to reach the next level.
“Growing up in WA, playing in the WNBL and representing Perth is something I’ve always wanted to work towards, so getting this opportunity at 18 is really special.
“There are so many experienced players in the Lynx group that I can learn from, and I’m really looking forward to getting into the environment, competing every day and doing whatever I can to help the team.”
Anticevic becomes the tenth NBL1 player on a strong Lynx roster, which has the likes of WNBA talent Anneli Maley and NBL1 stars Alex Ciabattoni, Sam Ashby and Kyana Weir among others.
The Lynx’s campaign opens with a Championship Series rematch against the Townsville Fire on Saturday night, live from 7pm AEDT at the Perth High Performance Centre on 9Now and ESPN via Disney+.
