The Committee of the Ringwood Basketball Association has announced this week that current Under 14 girls coach and tireless contributor Joe Egan will become the 18th and newest Life Member of the club.

There are few people more worthy of the honour, with Egan’s impact on Basketball in Ringwood as big as any across the Associations history.

“When you troll through the many things that Joe has contributed to our Association, there is not much he has not done.” Hawks President Tim Mottin said.

“And he has done just as much at a domestic level as he has for rep level.”

Egan has always shown a commitment to developing young athletes on the court but has also spent countless hours in roles on the score bench and with the tribunal.

Over a 20 year period, Egan has continually coached Hawks junior girls, has been a Big V assistant Coach, a committee representative and also developed a rep ready program to assist youngsters make the step from domestic to rep.

With the Spirit Magic, Egan has been just as busy filling various roles and sometimes coaching more than one team in the same season while also taking on coaching coordinator roles. If that wasn’t enough, Egan has been a 20 plus year player in our midweek domestic competitions and still plays today.

“His dedication to Basketball and his work for our club and for the community is legendary.”

“It is a great honour to present life membership to Joe, it’s very well deserved.”

The Hawks will look to formally present Egan his award at an upcoming club event.
