The Ballarat Miners are pleased to announce the promotion of Kyle Slack from our Youth League program to the role of Assistant Coach on Luke Brennan’s NBL1 Men’s Team Coaching Staff ahead of the 2024 NBL1 South season.
Slack has been a part of the Youth League program for the past 3 seasons, with the last two as Head Coach, and was in line to continue with that role this coming season until this fantastic opportunity came up for him. Although sad to be leaving the Youth League program and athletes, this is a great appointment and emphasises the pathway available to not only our athletes but also our coaches from Junior to Senior opportunities.
Upon his appointment and promotion, Kyle made the following comments “I’m really excited about this new opportunity for myself with the NBL1 squad here in Ballarat! The last couple of years as head coach of the youth men has been an amazing experience and I can’t thank the players, coaches, and support staff I’ve been involved with over this period enough for everything they have put in for me and our team!”
Slack added, “To now be able to further my coaching career locally here in Ballarat and continue to develop under our new head coach, Luke Brennan is an exciting opportunity for me personally which I am pumped for and now can’t wait for our season to start!”
Senior Elite Teams committee member, Matt Sheehan said “It’s great to see Kyle promoted to the full-time role as assistant coach with the NBL1 men’s team. Same as our athletes, we want to be able to provide a pathway for our coaches. Kyle has been very successful coaching our Men’s Youth league team winning a championship along the way, so this promotion is well deserved.”
The Youth League Men will now be coached by our program director of coaching, James McKinnon, who was excited to be given the chance to take over such a high-caliber group of young men and athletes, saying “I am appreciative of the chance to lead the Youth League Men's Program. Coach Slack has laid a strong foundation, and I am eager to build upon it and help the overall program success.”
