Klasztorny signing bolsters Giants' Women

With just four weeks until the commencement of season 2022, the Northern Star Resources Goldfields Giants women’s team is continuing its major signings with the announcement of league veteran Emma Klasztorny.

A familiar face in the basketball circles of the region when she relocated to the Goldfields prior to the Covid-19 outbreak for work purposes and despite the cancellation of their official season, she suited up for the Giants Women’s exhibition games in 2020, teaming up with fellow Mandurah alum Jemma Gatti to which helped provide the momentum to catapult the program along to the greater heights it achieved, joining the NBL1 competition.

Klasztorny, a 180cm guard/forward has moved back to the region once again with a longer term plan in play, and brings to the Giants a wealth of knowledge and playing experience.
Most notably 219 SBL/NBL1 games over 11 seasons, all with the Mandurah Magic and she alos spent two seasons in the premier WNBL competition with the Perth Lynx/West Coast Waves as a development player.

A tough nosed defender, she doesn’t back away from defensive assignments as well as contributing in other aspects on court, whether it be scoring, assisting or rebounding.
Her inaugural 2021 NBL1 season started off with a bang being the first women’s recipient of NBL1 West Player of the Week, where she scored 29 points at 75% shooting, along with 10 rebounds and 4 assists in just 28 minutes.

With her move to the Giants and into their women’s inaugural NBL1 season in 2022, Klasztorny spoke of the expectations and her role with the group to the Kalgoorlie Miner newspaper.
“I’m trying to grow myself, as a player, and hopefully I show the girls the way with my actions,” she said. “Actions speak louder than words, in my opinion, and I am very excited about the next steps for the team.”
“It’s essentially a brand new team, with no experience in the league — it’s a massive step up for everyone, and it will take us a few games to get into the swing of things.”

“But I love the competitiveness of everyone and if we can carry that throughout the season, I believe we can go further than perhaps many think. We’re not going to go in and win the whole thing straight away, but we will be very competitive.”
“But I think it will just be very cool to be part of that inaugural team.”

Klasztorny has already relocated back to the region and has been part of the Giants pre-season training leading into their opening game at home on the 9th of April.
