It really should come as no surprise that missing a whole year of Basketball due to injury or a pandemic was going to have some impact on every player regardless of what level they play the game. For Ringwood Hawk’s veteran shooter Nathan Truman, the lost season had many thoughts flashing across his mind as he pondered what his future at NBL1 level would be or if he would even have one.

“When NBL1 2020 was officially cancelled, I started wondering if maybe I had played my last game of NBL1 Basketball.” Truman said.

“There was so much uncertainty around and I guess there still a bit around today.”

The Hawks veteran perimeter sniper has been a key member of the Hawks Championship success over the past 6 years and has shown a passion for the game which has been a great example to young players. Despite being on the wrong side of his mid 30’s, Truman is still playing the game at a high level and he says he is as strong and as committed as he has ever been and cannot wait to get back in to it.

“You miss the game obviously but the competitiveness and battles we have at trainings area huge part of playing at Ringwood.” He said.

“It did not take long for me to miss the guys and I still think I have something to offer.”

Hawks Head Coach Ken Harrington agreed and was happy to have Truey back in his number 13 jersey for another season.

“He is an important voice on our team, he brings a level of intensity that we need.” Harrington said.

“Truey still has plenty to offer and we know he will be in shape and ready to go in 2021.”
